Ducks 2008-09 Schedule
The Anaheim Ducks announced today the club’s 82-game regular season schedule for the 2008-09 NHL campaign. The club will open its 16th year in the National Hockey League (NHL) on Thursday, Oct. 9 against the San Jose Sharks at HP Pavilion. The Ducks’ home opener is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 12 versus the Phoenix Coyotes at Honda Center.
Anaheim’s 2008-09 regular season schedule includes 82 games in total, 41 at Honda Center and 41 on the road. The Ducks will play six games against Pacific Division opponents (24 games total), four games against each non-divisional Western Conference team (40 games), and 18 contests against Eastern Conference opponents. Anaheim will play each NHL team at least once this season.
Highlights from the schedule include the first of two visits by the 2008 Stanley Cup Champion Detroit Red Wings on Oct. 29, a visit by reigning NHL MVP Alexander Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals on Nov. 19, and an appearance by the New York Rangers on Dec. 16. The Ducks play home and road games versus the Rangers, Carolina Hurricanes and Buffalo Sabres and battle every other Eastern Conference team once. Other Eastern Conference teams to visit Anaheim in 2008-09 include Florida (Nov. 9), Philadelphia (Jan. 2), Tampa Bay (Jan. 9), New Jersey (Jan. 11) and Atlanta (Feb. 15).
The 2008-09 home schedule features 25 weekend dates, including 10 Fridays and 15 Sunday contests. November will be the busiest home month of the season, with nine games scheduled at Honda Center. Anaheim’s longest homestand of the season will run from Nov. 5-19, a stretch of six consecutive home games against St. Louis (Nov. 5), Dallas (Nov. 7), Florida (Nov. 9), Nashville (Nov. 14), Los Angeles (Nov. 16) and Washington (Nov. 19). The Ducks will also enjoy a five-game homestand at Honda Center beginning March 6. The Ducks will play 17 sets of back-to-back games this season, one more than last year’s total.
