Ducks Sign Drew Miller to 2-Year Deal

The Anaheim Ducks announced on Friday that they have signed left wing Drew Miller to a two-year contract. Per club policy, no financial terms of the deal were disclosed.

Miller, 24 (2/17/84), completed his second professional season in 2007-08, appearing in 57 total contests for the Ducks and the Portland Pirates, Anaheim’s then-primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL). In 26 contests with Anaheim, the winger collected 2-3=5 points with six penalty minutes (PIM). Miller made his regular season NHL debut on Oct. 6 at Pittsburgh and scored his first NHL goal on Oct. 17 vs. Nashville in a 3-1 Ducks victory.

In 31 contests with the Pirates, Miller collected 16-20=36 points and helped lead Portland to an Eastern Conference Finals appearance, collecting 1-7=8 points in 16 games. The Dover, New Jersey, native was named the Rbk/AHL Player of the Week for Jan. 7-13 after recording 5-3=8 points with a +4 rating in four games. He collected his first career hat trick on Jan. 9 at Bridgeport.

Selected in the sixth round (186th overall) of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, Miller made his professional hockey debut in 2006-07 with Portland, finishing tied for first on the Pirates in rookie scoring and tied for third in overall scoring (16-20=36). He made his NHL postseason debut in 2007, appearing in three games for Anaheim during the Stanley Cup Playoffs, including Games One and Two of the Final vs. Ottawa.

The 6-2, 176-pound winger played at Michigan State for three seasons (2003-06), where he served as captain of the Spartans in 2005-06 and led the club in scoring with 18-25=43 points in 44 games. Miller was named Michigan State’s Most Valuable Player and was honored as the Central Collegiate Hockey Association’s Best Defensive Forward in 2006.
