Notes and Numbers for 2008-09

SETTING NEW STANDARDS: The Anaheim Ducks open their 16th NHL season on Thursday, Oct. 9 against the San Jose Sharks at HP Pavilion…over the last three NHL campaigns, the Ducks and Detroit Red Wings have been the most successful franchises in the NHL…both Anaheim and Detroit lead the NHL in playoff rounds won (6) and post season rounds played (8), with each team also winning a Stanley Cup.  The Ducks have qualified for the playoffs all three seasons, recording at least 98 points in each campaign – including over 100 points in each of the last two…the only other teams to record 100+ points the last two seasons are Detroit, San Jose and Pittsburgh, while only Detroit and San Jose join the Ducks with 98+ points each of the last three years.

FOR OPENERS: The Ducks have won two of their last three season openers despite an overall record of 4-10 in such games…in home openers, the club has won two straight games and is 6-7-1 overall in such contests…the Ducks open the home schedule at Honda Center this Sunday vs. Phoenix at 5:05 p.m.

ADDITIONS/SUBTRACTIONS: Anaheim’s 2008-09 roster consists of 18 returnees from last year’s club

Of the five newcomers, three are defensemen: Ken Klee (trade), Steve Montador (free agent) and Nathan McIver (waivers) join holdovers Scott Niedermayer, Chris Pronger, Francois Beauchemin and Kent Huskins on the Anaheim blueline this season ... the two additions at forward are center Brendan Morrison (free agent), who spent the previous eight seasons with the Vancouver Canucks, and left wing Brad Larsen (trade).
