Parros Nominated for Masterton Trophy
false
The Anaheim chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association (PHWA) announced on Monday that right wing George Parros has been named a nominee for the 2008-09 Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy.

The Masterton Trophy is presented annually to the NHL player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey. The winner will be selected at the end of the regular season by the full PHWA’s 30 chapters.

“Congratulations to George for this well-deserved nomination,” said Ducks Executive Vice President/General Manager Bob Murray. “George’s character and efforts both on and off the ice make him an ideal candidate for this prestigious award.”

Parros, 29, is competing in his fourth NHL season and his third with Anaheim. In 72 appearances this season, he has collected 5-5=10 points with a +9 rating and 135 penalty minutes (PIM). Signed to a three-year contract extension on Jan. 29, 2009, Parros has established a career high for goals, assists and points in a season this year. He ranks third on the Ducks in plus/minus, having recorded a plus-or-even rating in 65 of his 72 appearances in 2008-09.

A 6-5, 231-pound native of Randolph, New Jersey, Parros has appeared in 230 career NHL games with Los Angeles, Colorado and Anaheim, scoring 9-12=21 points with a +10 rating and 558 PIM. Acquired from Colorado with the option to exchange third-round selections in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft in exchange for a second-round selection in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft on Nov. 13, 2006, Parros won his first Stanley Cup with Anaheim in 2007.

Parros is an active member of the Southern California community and the Ducks’ community relations efforts. Since the start of his professional career, Parros has been growing his hair long in preparation to donate to nonprofits that provide children with wigs to aid in their fight against cancer. In January, he donated his hair to the Childhood Leukemia Foundation (CLF) as part of the second annual George Parros Cut for the Kids. Thirty fans were invited to join him in donating their hair to CLF while Parros was also available for pictures and autographs for a $10 donation to CLF. In addition, Parros was a participant at the 2009 Lady Ducks Fashion Luncheon in March, which raised over $98,000 for Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC).
