Randy Carlyle Game 2 Postgame Quotes
Ducks Coach Randy Carlyle

On playing Bobby Ryan on the second line
I didn’t think we were getting specifically anything from one player so I made a decision that we would try and put some more energy on that line and then move the player down to play with [Andrew] Ebbett and [Teemu] Selanne. A player like Bobby [Ryan] this is a learning curve. This is an experience that he’s got to understand you can’t play the type of game you played tonight along the wall and didn’t get the puck out a number of situations and seemed to be diving at pucks and whatnot. He’s got to skate and come back to the puck then. Don’t stand still and try to make plays. It’s just one game. It’s a young player who has played very very well for our hockey club so I just take this as it’s been totally out of character in the last 40 games for him

On Jonas Hiller's night
I think on the power play, that’s where he was called upon. They got more of their offense and chances on the power play. We didn’t have a power play for over 70 minutes in the hockey game so we’re not – so we’re looking at that and saying hmm.

On the Ducks' discipline
I think the referees did a heck of a job from the standpoint that the first penalty that they gave to [Ryan] Getzlaf kind of set the tone that they weren’t going to allow the slash and they weren’t going to allow the stuff that probably crept into the game the other night too much. They set the tone and then the players have to react to new rules. I think Scotty Niedermayer penalty was penalty where a guy stepped on his stick, but the stick was there in his feet. Those are the kind of ones that you hope don’t draw, but those are penalties.

On playing Petteri Nokelainen and Josh Green
Well, Nokelainen we felt that again we would give him an opportunity with him being a faceoff guy. He can take faceoffs. We put him out on the penalty killing to give us a second center. We felt that he’s earned the opportunity. He’s played some good hockey for our hockey club and then had some problems with an injury. He’s worked hard to get himself back in and those are tough decisions. We thought George [Parros] with the pace of the game transpiring in the last game that we felt we needed to spread more minutes out in our hockey game and I think tonight we got 14 or whatever that grouping did that was 10, whatever it is, that took those minutes away from [Ryan] Getzlaf. I think that’s important. At the end of the game, I think Getzlaf had 22 minutes in the normal frame, but that’s going to always go up in overtime. He [Josh Green] did a good job tonight he didn’t try and do to much he had a shot that hit the post in the 3rd period and also another one where he took the puck to the net and [Chris] Osgood made a big save.

We knew a lot about Josh Green. He’s had an up and down season. He started with us during training camp and went down to the AHL where he suffered a broken leg. This is his first experience in the playoff with our club and he’s worked his butt off for us here.

On the game-winning goal by Marchant
I think what happened, we recovered the puck in the neutral zone and Todd [Marchant] went back, but really the person made the play was Rob [Niedermayer]. He drove the middle lane and Todd went wide and Rob was in the middle He provided a little distraction for [Chris] Osgood. I had thought that the puck reflected off Rob’s stick but he said it didn’t and that’s just how close it was to him and it was able to get over Osgood shoulder.
