Randy Carlyle Game 7 Postgame Quotes
Ducks Coach Randy Carlyle

On the failed 5-on-3 advantages in the game
That was probably a low point in the night for us as far as we didn’t execute anywhere near the level that we had in the past.  In that situation, it seemed like we were going in the wrong direction, putting the puck in areas that we didn’t really have a net presence established.  We moved the puck and we tried to take one shot, one that was blocked.  There is some structure that we tried to set up in that situation and we didn’t do a very good job of it.  We had another four-on-three later in the game that was much the same.

On the game-winning goal by Detroit
We made a mistake at the far blue line.  We didn’t put the puck in behind them.  We were extending a shift and it was somewhat maybe a three-on-two.  In that situation, I thought that we would have been better served just to put the puck in behind and try to play that grinding game.  That’s how we got ourselves back into the hockey game, playing that way.  Playing conservatively and trying to gain some more offensive momentum.  If you look at the goals we scored tonight, they were off rebounds, off of offensive zone play.  In our minds, we started to turn the tide of the hockey game in our favor when we started to establish that grind game.  In that situation, I thought that we should have put the puck in behind them and maybe even changed at that point.

[Dan] Cleary made a deflection on the puck that was delivered to the front of the net from [Henrik] Zetterberg from the corner. It was in the air and he knocked it down and it went into  Hiller’s feet and then when he went down, Cleary pushed his pad.  No, I didn’t review if it exactly was behind his leg that caused the puck to go over the line.  But it’s moot at this point.

On the team's play over the last two months
We can be extremely proud of the work ethic that we developed as a team.  When you play in the Stanley Cup playoffs against teams that we played against in San Jose and Detroit, you know that there is going to be some controversy one way or another if you are not playing well enough, or not doing this well enough or that well enough.  But you always have to respect your opposition.  They are a good hockey club, the Stanley Cup Champions.  They played the game one notch higher than us and they won the hockey game.  From our standpoint, we believe that we could’ve done some things differently.  In some of the situations, we can refer back to the five-on-three, the four-on-three, and then, establishing that grind game.  I thought once we got it to overtime, that’s what I was looking at.  With three minutes left, let’s just get this thing to overtime because there is a lot of pressure on everybody at that point.
