Assessed coinciding roughing penalties as time expired in regulation with the game tied, the Ducks and Flames began overtime 3-on-3. It's a spot smooth-skating Scott Niedermayer would prove to be dangerous in.

Already the NHL's career leader among d-men in OT goals, Niedermayer added to that list 55 seconds into the extra session with a shot that glanced off Dion Phaneuf and past Miikkaa Kiprusoff to give Anaheim a 3-2 victory.

Twelfth in the Western Conference standings on March 18, Anaheim quickly put themselves back in playoff contention with a five-game win streak (tying a season high) in a span of one week.

The late-season tear was capped off with a 7-2 trouncing at last-place Colorado. Six different players found the back of the net (Corey Perry did so twice) and James Wisniewski had a game-high three points for the Ducks, who also tied a season-high with the seven goals.

23. Nov. 16, 2008 vs. Los Angeles
In his first two seasons in the NHL, Jonas Hiller has been dominant against the Kings (4-2-0, 1.45 goals-against average, .943 save percentage). And it was against the Freeway Face-Off rivals that the Ducks goaltender jumpstarted his breakout 2008-09 campaign with his first career shutout.

Hiller stopped each of the 29 shots he faced in a 2-0 victory over Los Angeles (including this one that required a sprawling save).

Already owning many of the Ducks career records (including goals, assists and points), Teemu Selanne added another to his full plate when he passed Steve Rucchin for most games played in an Anaheim uniform at Colorado

The Finnish Flash was not satisfied by simply setting the new mark in his 617th game as a Duck, he also once again showed a flair for the dramatic by scoring the game-winner in a 4-3 victory over the Avalanche.

21. Oct. 29, 2008 vs. Detroit
Neither team would know it at the time, but the first Ducks-Red Wings matchup of the season would be a sign of things to come between the clubs, as it featured plenty of back-and-forth action before Francois Beauchemin gave Anaheim a 5-4 overtime win with a tip-in goal that needed to be reviewed.

Ryan Getzlaf was the big star of the night with a career-high five points. He assisted on each Ducks goal including Teemu Selanne's hat trick.
