Benefiting the Oncology Floor at Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) and the Anaheim Ducks Foundation, the second annual Orange County Shoot for the Cure event is set for Saturday, August 29 at The Rinks – Huntington Beach Inline.

With former Anaheim defenseman Joe DiPenta, Bobby Ryan, James Wisniewski, Mike Brown, Andrew Ebbett and Brendan Mikkelson scheduled to be on hand, kids aged 4-16 can come test their ability in a hockey skills competition that features the Hardest Shot, Shootout and Accuracy.

Registration for the event is limited to the first 150 to sign up. Entry is open to all kids 4-16 years old, regardless of skill level. The only thing needed is a pair of tennis shoes. All other equipment will be provided, but participants can bring their own hockey sticks if desired. There will be four age divisions and each kid will get to compete in the three different skill events. The winner in each event will win a pair of tickets to the Ducks vs. Maple Leafs game at Honda Center on October 26. Players from the Ducks will participate and give instructions during the competition.

Along with the skills competition, other activities participants at Shoot for the Cure can enjoy are the Ducks Fun Zone with interactive games, a meeting with Wild Wing, a silent auction and raffle.

The Orange County Shoot for the Cure was founded last year by DiPenta, his wife Jessica, Rick Johnson and Dianna Munro. The inaugural event in 2008 helped raise $40,000 toward the fight against cancer including the funding of an adolescent patient room at CHOC on the Oncology Floor in the new Ducks Wing.
