Defenseman Steve Eminger agreed to a two-year deal with the Ducks on Friday. The 25-year-old scored 26 points in 71 games last season with Philadelphia, Tampa Bay and Florida.
The Ducks announced on Friday that they have signed defenseman Steve Eminger to a two-year contract. Per club policy, financial terms were not disclosed.

“Steve Eminger brings a physical presence to our blueline and is very capable offensively,” said Executive Vice President/General Manager Bob Murray. “Being only 25 years old, we expect him to continue improving as a player and make a solid contribution this season.”

Eminger, 25 (10/31/83), has played in 283 career NHL games, scoring 11-58=69 points with 271 penalty minutes (PIM). He played in 71 NHL games last season with Philadelphia, Tampa Bay and Florida, scoring 5-21=26 points with 50 PIM. The 6-2, 212-pound blueliner set NHL career-highs in games, assists and points last season (tied career-best in goals).

A native of Woodbridge, Ontario, Eminger was drafted by Washington in the first round (12th overall) of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. He played with the Capitals from 2002-08 before being acquired by the Flyers with a third-round selection in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft in exchange for a first-round pick in 2008 (June 20, 2008). Eminger played in 12 games with Philadelphia before being acquired by Tampa Bay with Steve Downie and a fourth-round pick in 2008 in exchange for Matt Carle and a third-round pick in 2009 on Nov. 7, 2008. Eminger was acquired by Florida in exchange for Noah Welch and a future third-round draft pick on Mar. 4, 2009.

Eminger was a Memorial Cup All-Star in 2002-03 (Kitchener) and played for Team Canada at the 2003 World Junior Championships (Silver Medal).

Ducks Senior Vice President of Hockey Operations David McNab spoke to reporters via conference call on Friday afternoon. Following is a brief transcript:

He's a guy everyone likes and a good player. Any time you have a chance to get a defenseman that's 25 and has played 300 games, you try to get them.

We think he's a good fit for our team. He's going to play and play a lot. Every time you get a chance to get a good player and he fits your price range, you get him.
