Register for the First Flight Field Trip

Monday, 10.26.2009 / 6:28 PM / Community
The registration period for the 10th Annual First Flight Field Trip opens today. This exciting field trip takes place on February 11, 2010 at Honda Center and is FREE to all participants.

Join Anaheim Ducks players and coaches in a live and interactive classroom setting as they teach your students math and science concepts relating to the fast-paced game of hockey.

Each year the Ducks host more than 15,000 elementary school students, grades 3-6 at the First Flight Field Trip. Students and teachers from throughout Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, and Los Angeles Counties convene for the interactive learning program, which this year falls under the theme "Discover the Puck”. Students will study many facets of the puck as it relates to the player’s ability to stickhandle, shoot or pass it.

Along with learning these concepts using an official First Flight workbook, students will hear from Ducks’ players and coaches live. Recognized as an educational event by the California State Assembly, the academic principles of First Flight follow the state’s educational content standards. The First Flight Field Trip is just one facet of the award-winning Anaheim Ducks S.C.O.R.E. (Scholastic Curriculum of Recreation and Education) Program, which was developed in 2005 with the ultimate goal of promoting healthy living and academic excellence to all students in Southern California. In addition to being recognized for its educational initiatives, the S.C.O.R.E. program has received the Celebrate Literacy awards from both the local and state chapters of the International Reading Association.

The Anaheim Ducks invite Southern California schools to participate in the First Flight event at no cost to the schools or students. Children and teachers alike will be entertained by on-ice activities that include practice drills and a skills event featuring the entire Ducks roster. Players will be competing in such disciplines as hardest shot, shooting accuracy, fastest skater and the breakaway challenge. During scheduled breaks, players will interact with the students and reveal answers to the questions in their First Flight workbooks.
