COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ducks are prepared for what Coach Randy Carlyle predicted will be “a hornets’ nest” tonight at Nationwide Arena.

Coming off Wednesday night’s ugly 9-1 loss to the visiting Detroit Red Wings, a defeat that matched the most one-sided in franchise history, the Columbus Blue Jackets figure to be in a foul mood when the puck drops at 4:05 p.m. (PST).

The Blue Jackets had been 3-0-2 in their previous five games before being scorched by Detroit for the most goals Columbus has ever surrendered at Nationwide Arena.

“Coming into their building, the Blue Jackets are going to be looking for revenge,” Carlyle said.

The Ducks are also out to atone for what they considered a sub-par performance, albeit by a much more conventional score – Wednesday’s 3-1 loss at New Jersey.

“We just look at the other night’s game and say ‘Turn the page,’” Carlyle said.

The Ducks could be short-handed against Columbus. Centers Saku Koivu, who missed Wednesday’s game because of a strained groin, and Ryan Carter, who took a shot off his foot during Thursday’s practice, will be game-time decisions, Carlyle said.

The Blue Jackets, meanwhile, lost two players Wednesday night. Former Ducks center Samuel Pahlsson (elbow) and left wing Raffi Torres (facial damage) will be out of the lineup.

The Ducks are also expected to see backup Columbus goaltender Mathieu Garon, whom Blue Jackets coach Ken Hitchcock said will start in place of last season’s Calder Trophy winner, Steve Mason.
