Festerling Recalled; Mikkelson Sent Down

The Ducks recalled defenseman Brett Festerling from the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League (AHL). At the same time, the Ducks have reassigned defenseman Brendan Mikkelson to the Marlies.

Festerling, 23 (3/3/86), has appeared in 24 AHL contests with Toronto and San Antonio this season, earning 0-4=4 points with 21 penalty minutes (PIM) and a +3 rating. He joined the Marlies for the club’s contest vs. Lake Erie on Nov. 20. The 6-1, 210-pound defenseman appeared in 40 NHL contests for Anaheim in 2008-09, notching 0-5=5 points with 18 PIM and a +5 rating. Festerling made his NHL debut on Nov. 16, 2008 vs. Los Angeles and collected his first NHL point with an assist on Dec. 3, 2008 at Chicago. He also made his Stanley Cup Playoffs debut in 2008-09, appearing in Game Four of the Western Conference Semifinals on May 7 vs. Detroit, where he went scoreless in 14:34 TOI.

A native of Quesnel, British Columbia, Festerling was signed by Anaheim as a free agent on Sept. 14, 2005. He also appeared in 34 contests for Iowa (AHL) in 2008-09, collecting 0-7=7 points with 31 PIM. In 132 career AHL contests, Festerling has scored 3-22=25 points with 116 PIM. In the 2008 Calder Cup Playoffs, he helped the Portland Pirates to an Eastern Conference Finals appearance, scoring 1-3=4 points in 15 games.

Mikkelson, 22 (6/22/87), appeared in 22 contests for Anaheim this season, recording 0-2=2 points with eight PIM. He collected his first assist of the season and registered a career-high +3 rating on Oct. 14 vs. Minnesota and logged a season-high 19:27 TOI on Nov. 19 vs. TB. The 6-3, 205-pound blueliner was recalled from Toronto (AHL) on Oct. 11 after playing in two games with the Marlies this season, collecting 0-1=1 point. Selected by Anaheim in the second round (31st overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, Mikkelson has appeared in 56 career NHL games, earning 0-4=4 points with 25 PIM.
