No Timetable Yet on Selanne Injury
There is no determination as of yet on how long Ducks winger Teemu Selanne will be out with the fractured left hand injury suffered during Thursday night's 3-1 loss to the Dallas Stars. Selanne was struck with a shot by defenseman Karlis Skrastins in the second period of the game, immediately left the ice and didn't return.

X-rays revealed a fracture in the area of the knuckle above Selanne's middle finger. Selanne was suffering from the stomach flu prior to the game and didn't join the team on the flight to Dallas. He arrived just hours before the game.

“First, I get stomach flu right after the L.A. game or in the game,” said Selanne, who flew in hours before the game."Even [Wednesday] at this time, I couldn’t believe I was going to play. I didn’t feel very good before the game. I wanted to give it a shot. I felt really good in the first period. And then in the second period, I blocked the shot and it hit me right there.”

Selanne is scheduled to fly back today to Orange County and see a hand specialist to determine if surgery is necessary to repair the fracture.

“The healing process is still the same, even if I get the surgery or not,” said Selanne.

The Ducks are already without three injured forwards, as Joffrey Lupul has sat for the last seven games with back spasms, Kyle Calder is out two to four weeks with an eye injury and Ryan Carter is out at least another two weeks with a broken foot.

Selanne hadn't missed a game this season, but he did miss 17 last year with a lacerated left quadriceps after being cut with his own skate in a December 19 game in Edmonton.

“But you know, I have played almost 1,200 games,” he said last night. ”I haven’t missed one game because of the flu and I’ve played a lot of games that I was this close to saying, ‘No, I just can’t play.’ Some way, I just fight through. The same thing happened today. I’m not going to give up easily.

"Right now, I would say that’s the smarter thing to do but you want to play. You want to help the team. Hockey players overall, they play almost no matter what.”
