Selanne Out 2-6 Weeks with Fractured Jaw
Ducks right wing Teemu Selanne underwent successful surgery today to repair two fractured bones in his jaw and is expected to be out 2 to 6 weeks.

The surgery was performed by Dr. Jeffrey Pulver at St. Joseph's Hospital in Orange, Calif. Selanne is currently on injured reserve.

Selanne suffered the injury in the third period of Anaheim's 4-3 victory over the Boston Bruins at Honda Center. He was hit in the face by the puck with 8:29 left in the game following a shot by teammate Ryan Whitney that deflected off the stick of Boston's Miroslav Satan and bounced off the ice.

"It's a tough loss," Carlyle said. "The puck hit the bottom of somebody's stick, went and hit the ice and then bounced back up and hit him. It's one of those things that you'd very rarely would see unfortunately for Teeme and unforunately for us. We finally started to get some bodies back in our lineup and get our lines setted. That is just the way it goes and injuries are a part of it."

Selanne was playing just his third game after missing 17 with a fractured bone in his left hand. He had goals in each of those first two games and remains five short of 600 for his career.
 
"That is unfortunate for Teemu," Carlyle said. "We all know how much he loves to play the game. Injuries are things that happen during the course of the season. I don't how to explain it. Why does it happen to one player over another?"

Said Ducks winger Dan Sexton, “It’s weird that he just came back and then now he’s out. You feel pretty poorly for a guy who’s that nice and that upbeat and positive all the time even when he is injured. For him to get injured two times in a row like that … it sucks when bad things happen like that to such good people.”

Sexton is among the Ducks who stepped up during Selanne's 17-game absence, thriving on a second line with Saku Koivu and Bobby Ryan. “If there is a bright spot, it’s that we have played together and we have had a lot of success,” Sexton said. ”So it’s not going to be as big of a question mark of what are we going to do now. Because he has been out before. But at the same time, for it to happen three games later is kind of a shock to the whole team’s system. Two major injuries in that short of time period to such a good guy and such a good player is always going to be tough.”
