Ducks Recall Pogge, Reassign Sexton
The Ducks have reassigned right wing Dan Sexton to the Manitoba Moose of the American Hockey League (AHL) and recalled goaltender Justin Pogge from the San Antonio Rampage (AHL).

The roster moves come on the heels of the Ducks acquiring winger Jason Blake and goaltender Vesa Toskala from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for Jean-Sebastien Giguere.

Sexton, 22 (4/29/87), appeared in 28 games for the Ducks, collecting 9-9=18 points with 14 penalty minutes (PIM). Sexton led all NHL rookies in goals and points along with scoring on the road since his recall from Manitoba on Dec. 4. He scored 6-5=11 points in the month of December, ranking second among league rookies in scoring and tied for second in goals. Sexton also posted a career-high three-game goal streak (4-3=7) from Dec. 3-8, matching the longest by a rookie this season.

Sexton has played five games for Manitoba this year, earning 1-2=3 points with a +2 rating. He began 2009-10 with the Bakersfield Condors, Anaheim’s development affiliate in the ECHL. In 18 games with Bakerfield, Sexton scored 13-13=26 points with a +8 rating and 14 PIM. He earned ECHL Player of the Week honors for Nov. 16-22 after posting 5-4=9 points and helping lead Bakersfield to a 4-0-0 week.

Signed as a free agent on Apr. 7, 2009, Sexton played all 38 games with Bowling Green last season, collecting 17-22=39 points with 20 PIM. Among Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) leaders, Sexton ranked tied for fifth in scoring and fifth in goals. He was also tied for second in the CCHA with two shorthanded goals, tied for fifth with 18 power play points and tied for ninth with three game-winning goals. Sexton earned honorable mention from the CCHA in March when the 2008-09 All-CCHA First and Second Teams were announced.

A native of Apple Valley, Minnesota, Sexton began his collegiate career at Bowling Green in 2007-08, scoring 7-14=21 points with 42 PIM in 38 games. He ranked fifth on the Falcons in scoring and first in shorthanded goals (3) while also recording two power play goals and five multiple-point games. Sexton earned CCHA Rookie of the Week honors with 2-2=4 points in a weekend sweep of Western Michigan, Jan. 18-19, 2008.

Pogge 23 (4/22/86), went 7-5-2 with a 2.47 goals-against average (GAA) and .924 save percentage (SV%) in 14 games for San Antonio this season. He posted a 3-0-1 record in his last four starts with the Rampage, stopping 131-of-142 shots for a .923 SV% and 2.65 GAA. Pogge began the season with Bakersfield, going 6-2-0 with a 2.69 GAA and .902 SV% in nine appearances. Pogge has been previously recalled twice from Bakersfield, including Oct. 21 and Oct. 26. He did not make an appearance during either recall with Anaheim.

A native of Fort McMurray, Alberta, Pogge spent his rookie NHL season with Toronto in 2008-09, posting a 1-4-1 record with a 4.36 GAA and .844 SV% in seven appearances. In his NHL debut, he stopped 19-of-21 shots in a 6-2 Toronto win on Dec. 22, 2008 at Atlanta. With the victory, Pogge became the first Toronto goaltender to start and win in his NHL debut since Mar. 22, 1991 (Damian Rhodes at Detroit). The 6-4, 202-pound goaltender spent the rest of the season with the Maple Leafs’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Toronto Marlies, going 26-21-5 with a 2.70 GAA and .895 SV% in 53 appearances.

Originally selected by Toronto in the third round (90th overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Pogge made his professional debut with the Marlies in 2006-07. In three AHL seasons with Toronto from 2006-09, Pogge went 71-56-11 with seven shutouts, a 2.71 GAA and .899 SV% in 142 career appearances. He was acquired by Anaheim from Toronto in exchange for a conditional selection in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft on Aug. 10, 2009.
