Ducks Acquire Goalie MacDonald from Toronto

The Ducks acquired goaltender Joey MacDonald from Toronto in exchange for a seventh-round selection in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.
MacDonald, 30 (2/7/80), has split the 2009-10 season with the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League (AHL). In six contests with the Maple Leafs, MacDonald went 1-4-0 with a 3.20 goals-against average (GAA) and .892 save percentage (SV%). He shared a 3-0 shutout with Jonas Gustavsson on Dec. 1 at Montreal, turning away all 18 shots he faced. In 31 contests with the Marlies this season, MacDonald has gone 11-17-3 with a 3.28 GAA and .887 SV%. The 6-0, 197-pound netminder recorded his first shutout of the season in a 3-0 victory over Adirondack on Oct. 30, stopping all 19 shots. MacDonald will remain with the Marlies following today’s trade.
Signed as a free agent by Toronto on Aug. 10, 2009, MacDonald was originally signed as a free agent by Detroit on Dec. 21, 2001. He has appeared in 72 contests with Detroit, Boston, NY Islanders and Toronto and has posted an 18-38-9 record with a 3.30 GAA and .900 SV%, recording one shutout. MacDonald made his NHL debut with Detroit on Oct. 19, 2006 at San Jose and recorded his first NHL win on Feb. 11, 2007 vs. Calgary (7-4). In 233 career AHL contests, the Pictou, Nova Scotia native has gone 115-93-12 with a 2.58 GAA and 19 shutouts. In 2002-03, MacDonald received the Harry “Hap” Holmes Memorial Award with teammate Marc Lamothe for the lowest team GAA in the AHL with Grand Rapids in 2002-03.
MacDonald has played in six games for the Leafs this season and has spent most of the campaign with the Toronto Marlies of the AHL. He will likely remain with the Marlies for the time being.
