Murray Comments on Lydman, Mara and More
Ducks Executive Vice President Bob Murray spoke to media via conference call Thursday afternoon:

On Toni Lydman, who is out indefinitely
Last week, on Wednesday I think, he skated with the guys and then he was at lunch and I don’t know what happened. All of the sudden, he started getting double vision and didn’t feel well. He called Teemu, who got a hold of the doctor. They have been doing tests ever since. He has never had this before.  He does have and what they are checking into are migraines occasionally. Ever since that day, all he has been getting are tests. Everything they test for, nothing is coming back.

I just got back from Canada and the doctor said he had a great day today.

On signing Paul Mara
I’ve been talking to Paul Mara since mid-July. I mentioned I was looking at a veteran defenseman that could go with the group. He has been in that bracket that whole timeframe. He has been one of the guys.

I don’t think it was urgent. We planned on doing something with somebody around this timeframe. We were in on somebody who signed earlier in the summer. There are a few things going on here. We’re talking to different teams about different scenarios, other than free agents, and nothing like that happened in the last couple of week. We said fine, let’s get Paul in here and get him tested because of the shoulder. That all went really well. I said the heck with it, let’s get this done and moving forward.

On Stephane Veilleux being invited to camp on a Pro Tryout Offer
We’ve always thought he was a very good penalty killer. He has always competed hard.  He’s had a little bit of a shoulder problem too and is coming off that. We like him in a hard-working, penalty-killing, energy role.

On the Ducks at the Young Stars Tournament
Three teams up there were young. We were of them. There were two older teams. It was very good to see which of our young players coming out of junior would battle through playing against some experienced minor league players. Some of them did very well and others couldn’t seem to find a way. They will have to do that this year if they are turning pro, figure out how to play in the American Hockey League. From that aspect, it was a good eye-opener for them.

Some of the ones I was pleased with are coming here and some that I’m not very happy with are here. We need to spend some time with both groups. We only have them for so much time. Now is the time we can get some work done with them and some communication with our coaching staff and hockey ops people.
