FOR OPENERSThe Ducks open their 17th NHL season Friday night against the Detroit Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena (4:30 p.m. PDT on PRIME TICKET and AM 830)…Friday’s game will mark the first time Anaheim has opened against a non-Pacific Division opponent since Oct. 5, 2005 at Chicago (W, 5-3)…the contest will also represent the Ducks’ first-ever season opener at Joe Louis Arena and the 13th time the club has opened the regular season on the road…Anaheim, which is 4-12-0 all-time in season openers, began its inaugural 1993-94 season against Detroit on Oct. 8, 1993 at Honda Center (L, 7-2)…that is the only other time the club opened against the Red Wings.
ALL-TIME
The Ducks enter the season with an all-time record of 557-539-184 (.507 winning percentage) over 17 NHL seasons (this is the club’s 18th season overall, including the lockout year)…the club will play its 1,300th NHL regular season game on Nov. 16 at Dallas…over the last five seasons, the Ducks have posted a regular season record of 219-139-52 (.598 winning percentage), including a 125-54-26 mark at Honda Center (.673 winning percentage)…over that same five-year span, the Ducks have won more playoff games (34) than any other team in the NHL with the exception of Detroit (48 wins) and Pittsburgh (38)…Anaheim has also won seven playoff rounds during that stretch, the third-most in the NHL (Detroit, 10 and Pittsburgh, 8).
FOLLOW MY LEAD
The Ducks named Ryan Getzlaf the eighth captain in club history on Oct. 3…a Stanley Cup champion, Olympic gold medalist and two-time NHL All-Star, Getzlaf will be joined by alternate captains Saku Koivu and Teemu Selanne this season…Getzlaf wore the “A” the previous two seasons under then-captain Scott Niedermayer (Niedermayer was captain for four of the last five seasons)…below is a look at the captains/alternates in club history:
