Festerling Recalled from Syracuse
The Ducks announced on Saturday that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has recalled defenseman Brett Festerling from the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League (AHL).

The move comes in the wake of fellow defenseman Andy Sutton's injury last night in Detroit. The 6-6, 245-pounder fractured his right thumb in the second period of play at Joe Louis Arena. He was hurt following a brief exchange of punches with Red Wings d-man Ruslan Salei. There is no timetable yet for Sutton's return.

Festerling, 24 (3/3/86), appeared in Syracuse’s 2010-11 Season Opener last night at Lake Erie, going scoreless with four PIM. Festerling appeared in his second NHL season with Anaheim in 2009-10, earning 0-3=3 points with a +1 rating and 15 PIM in a career-high 42 games. The 6-1, 210-pound blueliner ranked tied for third on the Ducks with 127 hits last season, including a career-high 14 on Dec. 31, 2009 at Dallas.

Signed as a free agent on Sept. 14, 2005, Festerling has scored 0-8=8 points with 33 PIM in 82 career NHL games with Anaheim. He made his NHL debut on Nov. 16, 2008 vs. Los Angeles and appeared in his first Stanley Cup Playoff game in Game 4 of the Conference Semifinals on May 7, 2009 vs. Detroit.

A native of Quesnel, British Columbia, Festerling has appeared in 137 career AHL games with Syracuse (2010-11), San Antonio (2009-10), Toronto (2009-10), Iowa (2008-09) and Portland (2007-08). In those 137 AHL games, Festerling has collected 3-23=26 points with 33 PIM. He helped the Portland Pirates to an Eastern Conference Finals appearance in the 2008 Calder Cup Playoffs, scoring 1-3=4 points in 15 games.
