Ducks right wing Dan Sexton will have surgery Thursday to repair a broken nose. He is expected to be out of the lineup for two weeks. Sexton was hit with a shot during the first period of Anaheim's 5-4 loss in Detroit on Saturday.

“His nose is pretty mushed up. It’s not just a simple break. There are multiple fractures of the nose,” said Ducks coach Randy Carlyle. It’s unfortunate that players do get hurt, but you have to move on without them. That’s as cruel as it can be, but you have to go to work. Because you have injuries, so does every other team.”

The Ducks are also missing rookie Cam Fowler, who suffered a broken nose on October 17 vs. Phoenix and hasn't played since, despite skating with the Ducks at times on the current road trip. He did not participate in this morning's skate prior to the Ducks taking on the Stars in Dallas. Another defenseman, Andy Sutton, broke his thumb October 8 at Detroit and is in the middle of a 6-to-8-week absence.

“We thought he would possibly play the first game of the trip, and here he hasn’t played a game yet on this trip," Carlyle said of Fowler.  "With Sutton out, that’s two defensemen that would probably be playing. That’s a concern, but we’ve brought other people in. We have (Andreas) Lilja now, and (Paul) Mara. (Danny) Syvret has come in, and we’ve liked what he’s been able to contribute. When other people get an opportunity, we’d like to see them make the most of it."
