Ducks Recall Palmieri from Syracuse

The Ducks have  recalled right wing Kyle Palmieri from the Syracuse Crunch, Anaheim’s primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).

Palmieri, 19 (2/1/91), appeared in nine games for Syracuse this season, scoring 7-2=9 points with 11 penalty minutes (PIM). Palmieri was tied for the league lead in goal scoring and was tied for the team lead in points at the time of his recall. He recorded a four-game goal streak (6-1=7) from Oct. 23-30, tied for the longest in the AHL this season. He was named the AHL Player of the Week for the period ending Oct. 31 after scoring 5-1=6 points in three games. The Smithtown, NY native recorded his first career hat trick in a 5-4 loss on Oct. 27 at Hamilton.

Signed to a three-year entry-level contract on Aug. 3, 2010, Palmieri completed his freshman season at the University of Notre Dame of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) in 2009-10. Palmieri scored 9-8=17 points in 33 contests with Notre Dame, ranking tied for first in club rookie scoring and tied for 10th in CCHA rookie scoring. The 5-11, 193-pound winger was also a member of Team USA’s gold medal-winning squad at the 2010 IIHF World Junior Championship, notching 1-8=9 points in seven games and finishing third on the team in scoring and second in assists.

Selected by Anaheim in the first round (26th overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, Palmieri scored 15-15=30 points, including four game-winning goals (GWG) with the U.S. National Under-18 team in 2008-09. In 2007-08, he finished second on the U.S. National Under-17 team in goals and fourth in points (20-10=30). He also participated in the 2008 Under-18 World Championship in Kazan, Russia, helping Team USA to a bronze medal with 2-2=4 points in seven games. At the 2008 Five Nations Tournament, he scored a hat trick to lead the U.S. to a gold medal in a 5-3 victory over Finland.
