Ducks to Unveil Third Jersey Today

The New Look Will Debut In-Game vs. the Stanley Cup Champion Blackhawks

Tuesday, 11.23.2010 / 5:33 PM / News
The Ducks will unveil their new third jersey today vs. the Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks at Honda Center (1:05 p.m.). The traditional uniform will be worn during warm-ups before the team changes into the brand-new third jersey for the start of the game (the team will take the ice in the new uniforms for the first time at 1:04 p.m.). At the start of the game, jerseys and other new third-jersey merchandise will be available at the Anaheim Ducks Team Store (ticketed guests only), located adjacent to the East Entrance of Honda Center. Third jersey merchandise will also be available at the Team Store on the San Manuel Premium Level and at merchandise kiosks throughout the building. The new sweater serves as the club’s fourth alternate “look” in franchise history. The Ducks will wear the third jersey on 14 additional occasions (15 in all) throughout the remainder of the 2010-11 NHL regular season (see complete list of third jersey games below).

When the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim transformed into the Anaheim Ducks on June 22, 2006, the club began to wear a jersey with a color palette of black and metallic gold with orange accents as a metaphorical link to Orange County. The primary logo emblazoned across the front of the jersey is a strong typographic mark anchored by a stylized “D” that echoes the image of a duck’s footprint. The third jersey will put an alternative spin on the traditional colors and logo, also paying homage to the club’s history.

The new jersey will serve as the fourth alternate “look” in club history and first to debut in more than seven years. The club sported a black with dark plum, silver and white alternate jersey beginning on September 29, 2003 that was worn for the 2003-04 and 2005-06 seasons. The Ducks also donned two versions of an alternate sweater beginning with the 1997-98 season. The home jersey was white with a jade panel across the chest, while the road jersey was jade with an eggplant panel across the chest. Both the home and road jerseys contained the original Mighty Ducks crest consisting of a white goaltender’s mask shaped to fit a duck, with crossed yellow hockey sticks centered over the mask. Anaheim’s original third jersey was worn during the 1995-96 season and depicted a cartoon Duck posing as a hockey player breaking through a sheet of ice.

Friday’s game also marks the Surprise Puck Set sale, the second in the commemorative series of four limited-edition Anaheim Ducks pucks during the 2010-11 season benefiting the Anaheim Ducks Foundation. Fans can purchase an individually-wrapped puck at random for $30 each, and receive either a Ducks player-autographed commemorative puck or one of 22 “surprise” Ducks player-autographed pucks. Friday’s Surprise Puck lucky winners will also receive a brand new Anaheim Ducks third jersey autographed by the player selected. The second edition of the Surprise Puck Set series can be purchased on Friday at Section 213 beginning at 11:30 a.m. The third and fourth Surprise Puck Set sales will take place Feb. 2 vs. San Jose and Apr. 8 vs. Los Angeles.

Tickets to Friday’s (Nov. 26) Third Jersey Unveil vs. Chicago are still available and can be purchased online at AnaheimDucks.com, by phone with Ticketmaster at (714) 703-2545 or in person at the Honda Center box office.
