Ducks Acquire Defenseman Guenin from Columbus

Guenin, 28 (12/10/82), appeared in three games for Columbus this season, going scoreless with two penalty minutes (PIM) while averaging 14:47 time-on-ice (TOI). The 6-2, 210-pound defenseman was recalled from Springfield of the American Hockey League (AHL) on Oct. 16 and reassigned back to the AHL on Oct. 26. He has also appeared in 30 AHL games in 2010-11, collecting 0-5=5 points with 21 PIM with Springfield.
Originally selected by the New York Rangers in the third round (127th overall) of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, Guenin has appeared in 17 career NHL games with Philadelphia (2006-09), Pittsburgh (2009-10) and Columbus (2010-11), scoring 0-2=2 points with eight PIM. He made his NHL debut with Philadelphia on Jan. 18, 2007 vs. the New York Islanders and collected his first two career NHL points with a pair of assists on Mar. 31, 2007 vs. the New York Rangers.
Smith, 25 (2/8/85), appeared in 35 games with Syracuse (AHL) this season, scoring 12-15=27 points with 16 PIM. Smith led the Crunch in scoring, goals and assists and ranked tied for fourth in appearances. The 6-1, 194-pound center finished with 5-2=7 points in his final five games with the Crunch.
Originally signed by the New York Islanders as a free agent on Apr. 7, 2007, Smith made his NHL debut in a 4-2 win on Dec. 31, 2008 vs. Florida, going scoreless in 10:55 TOI. He appeared in seven games for the Islanders in 2008-09, earning his first career NHL goal against Mikka Kiprusoff in a 5-2 loss on Jan. 8, 2009 at Calgary.
