Ducks goalie Jonas Hiller has had a recurrence of fatigue/lightheadedness and has been placed on injured reserve. He will miss the next three games and is eligible to return February 21.

Hiller reported the symptoms during practice yesterday at Honda Center and left the ice early. He had originally missed three games with the same condition, though he traveled with the team during its recent four-game road trip. He returned to action against Edmonton on Sunday night, where he had 12 saves in a 4-0 shutout of the Oilers.

Hiller ranks third in the NHL in saves (1373), tied for fourth in wins (26), fourth in appearances (48), tied for fourth in save percentage (.925) and tied for fifth in shutouts (5). He has a .935 save percentage and and 2.15 goals-against average in his last 15 contests (during which he's gone 10-3-0).

Curtis McElhinney will likely be in net for the Ducks tonight vs. the Washington Capitals at Honda Center, with his backup being Timo Pielmeier, who was recalled by the Ducks from the ECHL's Elmira Jackals this morning.

Pielmeier, 21 (7/7/89), was previously recalled from the Syracuse Crunch (Anaheim’s primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League) on Jan. 22 and Feb. 4 (has not appeared in an NHL game). Most recently assigned to Elmira on Feb. 11 after being recalled on Feb. 8, Pielmeier appeared in two contests with the Jackals, posting a 1-0-1 record with a 3.37 goals-against average (7 GA/125 MIN) and .873 save percentage (48-of-55). He has appeared in 27 games for Syracuse this season, going 10-14-1 with a 3.33 GAA (77 GA/1389 MIN) and .901 SV% (704-of-781). He went 4-2 with the Crunch from Dec. 31-Jan. 19, compiling a 2.39 GAA (15 GA/377 MIN) and .921 SV% (174-of-189). A native of Deggendorf, Germany, Pielmeier won three consecutive games from Oct. 16-23, allowing just one goal in each of his appearances for a 1.00 GAA (3 GA/180 GA) and .969 SV% (94-of-97).

Acquired from San Jose with Nick Bonino in exchange for Kent Huskins and Travis Moen on Mar. 4, 2009, Pielmeier appeared in his first professional season with Bakersfield (ECHL) in 2009-10, posting a 27-22-5 record with a 3.29 GAA (178 GA/3251 MIN) and .883 SV% in a franchise-record 57 games. He finished his rookie season ranked fifth among ECHL goaltenders in GAA and also participated in the 2010 ECHL All-Star Game on Jan. 20 in Ontario, CA. Pielmeier was named ECHL Goaltender of the Month for November, 2009 after going 6-1-0 with a 2.07 GAA and .925 SV% in eight appearances.
