The Ducks have acquired a fifth-round selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for defenseman Paul Mara.

Mara, 31 (9/7/79), appeared in 33 contests for Anaheim this season, scoring 1-1=2 points with 40 PIM. He scored his first goal as a Duck with 1.7 seconds remaining in regulation in a 5-4 win on Nov. 7 vs. Nashville, marking the latest game-winning goal in regulation in club history. The 6-4, 211-pound blueliner appeared in his 700th career NHL contest on Nov. 14 at Chicago. He appeared in 42 games for Montreal in 2009-10, collecting 0-8=8 points with 48 PIM. He suffered a shoulder injury on Jan. 22 at New Jersey and subsequently missed the final 30 games of the regular season.

Originally selected by Tampa Bay in the first round (seventh overall) of the 1997 NHL Entry Draft, Mara has earned 64-185=249 points with 728 PIM in 714 career contests with Tampa Bay, Phoenix, Boston, the New York Rangers, Montreal and Anaheim. In addition, Mara has appeared in 32 Stanley Cup Playoff contests, collecting 3-4=7 points. A native of Ridgewood, NJ, Mara won a silver medal at the 1997 World Junior Championship and bronze at the 2004 World Championships in Prague, Czech Republic with Team USA.
