The Ducks announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has signed center Rick Schofield to a one-year entry-level contract. Per club policy, no financial terms of the deal were disclosed.

Schofield, 23 (4/23/87), collected a collegiate-high 17-18=35 points with 22 penalty minutes (PIM) in 39 games with the Lake Superior Lakers of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) this season. Schofield led Lake Superior in scoring, goals, game-winning goals (3) assists, and tied for the team lead in power play goals (6) and appearances. He tallied a career-tying 2-2=4 points in his senior season debut on Oct. 8 vs. University of Minnesota-Duluth. In addition, the 6-2, 198-pound forward matched a career best with three assists (0-3=3) on Jan. 28 at Bowling Green. Schofield increased his point total in each of his four collegiate seasons.

A native of Pickering, Ontario, Schofield was named Lake Superior State’s Most Valuable Player in 2009-10 after leading the club in goals and points (15-13=28). He was also the Lakers’ nominee for the CCHA Scholar Athlete Award for the second straight year in 2009-10. In addition, his five game-winning goals in his junior season ranked second among CCHA scorers and seventh in all of NCAA Division 1 hockey. Schofield was named the CCHA Offensive Player of the Week on Jan. 25, 2009 after scoring 3-2=5 points with three power play goals in two contests vs. Bowling Green. In his sophomore season, Schofield also led the Lakers in plus/minus (+13) and ranked second in power play goals (5).

In 144 career CCHA games, Schofield earned 51-53=104 points with 79 PIM. In 2007-08, he received Lake Superior State’s Outstanding Freshman award and led the squad with a +8 rating.
