The Ducks have signed defenseman Sean Zimmerman to a one-year contract extension. Per club policy, no financial terms of the deal were disclosed.

Zimmerman, 24 (5/24/87), appeared in 51 American Hockey League (AHL) contests this season with Syracuse, Rochester and Providence, collecting seven assists (0-7=7) with 47 penalty minutes (PIM). Acquired by Anaheim with Brian McGrattan from Boston in exchange for Stephan Chaput and David Laliberte on Feb. 27, 2011, Zimmerman earned 0-3=3 points with a +2 rating and 24 PIM in 21 games with the Syracuse Crunch.

Originally selected by New Jersey in the sixth round (170th overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, Zimmerman made his AHL debut in 2005-06 with Albany and has since played for Lowell (2006-08), San Antonio (2008-10), Rochester (2010-11), Providence (2010-11) and Syracuse (2010-11). He has appeared in 232 career AHL contests, collecting 4-20=24 points with 235 PIM.

A native of Denver, CO, Zimmerman appeared in four seasons with the Spokane Chiefs of the Western Hockey League (WHL) from 2003-07, scoring 10-59=69 points with 165 PIM in 270 games. The 6-3, 205-pound blueliner was also a member of Team USA’s 2007 World Junior Championship squad, helping the club to a bronze medal.
