The Ducks signed defenseman Nate Guenin to a two-year contract extension through the 2012-13 season. Per club policy, no financial terms of the deal were disclosed.

Guenin, 28 (12/10/82), appeared in three games for the Columbus Blue Jackets last season, going scoreless with two penalty minutes (PIM). Acquired by Anaheim in exchange for Trevor Smith on Jan. 4, 2011, Guenin played 73 combined games in the American Hockey League (AHL) in 2010-11, collecting 2-15=17 points with a +6 rating and 65 PIM with Syracuse and Springfield.

Originally selected by the New York Rangers in the third round (127th overall) of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, Guenin has appeared in 17 career NHL games with Philadelphia (2006-09), Pittsburgh (2009-10) and Columbus (2010-11), scoring 0-2=2 points with eight PIM. He made his NHL debut with Philadelphia on Jan. 18, 2007 vs. the New York Islanders and collected his first two career NHL points with a pair of assists on Mar. 31, 2007 vs. the New York Rangers.

A native of Sewickley, PA, Guenin has played five AHL seasons with Philadelphia (2006-09), Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (2009-10), Peoria (2009-10), Springfield (2010-11) and Syracuse (2010-11). In 348 career AHL appearances, the 6-2, 210-pound defenseman has collected 14-64=78 points with a +26 rating and 496 PIM.
