Ducks offseason acquisition Andrew Cogliano made his presence felt on the team early, taking top honors at the Get Your Ducks in a Roll event on Monday night at RA Sushi in Tustin. The former Edmonton center's "Break Away Roll" won first place based on fan vote and a panel of judges, beating out teammates Ryan Getzlaf, Bobby Ryan and Ducks fan Jeff Banner (who had the top auction bid for the opportunity to take part).

With the help of RA Sushi chefs, each competitor created original sushi roll recipes that were sampled by the more than 200 people in attendance. Each roll was then rated by the panel of judges, who reviewed them on the most creative name, ingredients, presentation and taste. A vote was also given to the roll that was the top seller of the night, which went to Getzlaf's “Captain Crunch Roll.”

Cogliano's "Break Away Roll" included  yellowtail, spicy albacore, avocado, cucumber & jalapeño and was served with sriracha and drizzled with garlic ponzu. It will be placed on a special menu at RA Sushi’s Southland locations (Tustin, Huntington Beach, Chino Hills and Corona). RA Sushi will donate $2 from each winning roll sold during the season, October 14, 2011 through April 1, 2012, to the Anaheim Ducks Foundation.

Bobby Ryan's “Hat Trick Roll"
Salmon, spicy mayo, avocado & cucumber; topped with crab mix and mango salsa

Jeff Banner's “Slapshot Roll"
Salmon, mango salsa & cream cheese; topped with eel and flying fish roe and drizzled with eel sauce
