Jacques Suspended Remainder of Preseason, Five Regular Season Games
Jacques
Ducks forward Jean-Francois Jacques has been suspended for the remainder of the preseason and for five regular season games for leaving the bench on a legal line change for the purpose of starting a fight with Vancouver Canucks forward Mike Duco during a preseason game on Sept. 24, NHL Senior Vice President of Player Safety Brendan Shanahan announced Tuesday.

According to the NHL:
At 16:31 of the third period, Jacques left the players bench on a legal line change. He made no attempt to take part in the play, skating a direct path to Duco to initiate an altercation. Rule 70.2 states, in part: "A player who has entered play while play is in progress from his own players' bench … who starts an altercation may be subject to discipline in accordance with Rule 28 -- Supplementary Discipline." Jacques received a minor for instigating, a major for fighting and a 10-minute misconduct as well as an automatic one-game suspension for instigating an altercation in the final five minutes of a game.

Jacques missed the Sept. 25 preseason game at Los Angeles and will miss preseason games Wednesday vs. Vancouver; Sept. 30 vs. Los Angeles and Oct. 4 vs. Jokerit in Helsinki, Finland. He also will miss regular season games Oct. 7 vs. Buffalo in Helsinki; Oct. 8 vs. the New York Rangers in Stockholm; Oct. 14 vs. San Jose; Oct. 16 vs. St. Louis and Oct. 17 at San Jose. He will be eligible to return Oct. 21 vs. Dallas.

“We certainly understand and support what the league is doing with regards to discipline, and we accept this suspension," said Ducks Executive Vice President & General Manager Bob Murray. "We do want our players defending each other, and I think that was J.F.’s intent. However, he went about it the wrong way. So we accept this and move on.”

The 25-year-old Jacques was signed by the Ducks in the offseason after playing 51 games for the Oilers last season.
