Smaby Out 2-3 Months with Thumb Injury

Ducks defenseman Matt Smaby will soon undergo surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right thumb. The injury was suffered in Anaheim’s preseason contest on Saturday, Sept. 24 at Vancouver. Smaby is expected to be out 2-3 months and remains on the Ducks roster.
The Ducks signed the 26-year-old Smaby to a one-year contract in July.
Anaheim has 26 players remaining on its 2011 Training Camp Roster – 14 forwards, nine defensemen and three goaltenders.
