Ducks Return to Action This Weekend After Record Start to Season
A GOOD START: Winners of four straight games, the Ducks have posted a 4-1-0 overall record that matches the best start by standings points in franchise history (also had eight points in 2006-07; 3-0-2 record)…this is also the first time the team has ever won four of its first five contests...in addition, the nine goals the Ducks have surrendered are tied for the fewest ever allowed through the five-game mark in club history (also 1998-99).

GOALTENDING SHINES:
Jonas Hiller, who started Anaheim’s opening four contests, has posted a 3-1-0 record (including one shutout) with a 1.71 GAA (7 GA/245 MIN) and .934 SV% (99-of-106)...Dan Ellis made his season debut on Oct. 17 in San Jose, stopping 41-of-43 shots for a 3-2 win...as a duo, Anaheim's team GAA of 1.77 ties for the fourth-best mark in the NHL.

MR. CLUTCH:
Corey Perry already has two game-winning goals this season, both coming in the third period (Oct. 16 vs. STL and Oct. 17 @ S.J.)...last season, the Hart Trophy winner led the NHL with 21 third period goals and 23 third period/overtime goals…he also co-led the NHL (Ovechkin) with 11 game-winning tallies.

ON THE PK:
The Ducks have killed 21 of the last 22 opponent power plays (95.5%), dating back to the second period of the club’s first contest of the season on Oct. 7 at Buffalo (Helsinki, Finland)…the club killed 20 straight penalties from the second period of the Oct. 7 contest until 11:01 of the third period in last night’s contest vs. San Jose (Brent Burns PP goal).

UP NEXT: The Anaheim Ducks open a brief two-game homestand against the Dallas Stars on Friday at Honda Center (7:05 p.m., PRIME TICKET/AM 830)...the Ducks went 4-2-0 vs. the Stars last season, which included a 2-1-0 home record...the Ducks are in the midst of playing three consecutive games against Pacific Division rivals...in 2010-11, Anaheim posted a 14-10-0 record against the Pacific Division.

MOVING UP THE CHARTS: On Oct. 17 at San Jose, Teemu Selanne scored his 237th career PPG to move into a tie with Brendan Shanahan for fifth place on the all-time PPG list…the 41-year-old right winger has played in 1,264 career NHL games with Winnipeg, Anaheim, San Jose and Colorado, earning 639-704=1,343 points...he currently ranks 14th on the NHL’s all-time goal scoring list (second among active players behind Jagr), 48th in assists (fourth among active players), and 27th in points (third among active players)….he is one goal shy of tying Dave Andreychuk for 13th on the all-time goals scored list….in 779 career contests with Anaheim, Selanne has scored 412-462=874 points with 381 PIM and a +122 rating...he is the club's all-time leader in goals, points, assists, games played, plus/minus, PPG (164), PPP (368), GWG (69), shots (2,559) and OT goals (6).

ROOKIES:
Two Ducks made their NHL debuts on Oct. 7 in Helsinki...right wing Devante Smith-Pelly, a second-round draft pick (42nd overall) for the Ducks in 2010, went scoreless with two hits in 8:36 TOI...at 19 years, three months and 23 days (6/14/92), he was the third-youngest Duck to appear in an NHL contest (O. Tverdovsky was the youngest at 18 yrs, 8 mos, 13 days on 1/21/95 and C. Fowler was the second-youngest at 18 yrs, 10 mos, 3 days on 10/8/10)...Smith-Pelly picked up his first career assist in his second NHL contest in Anaheim's 2-1 shootout win over the NY Rangers on Oct. 8 in Stockholm...center Maxime Macenauer (22 yrs,1/4/89), a third-round selection (63rd overall) for the Ducks in the 2007 Draft, also made his NHL debut on Oct. 7, picking up his first career assist on Nate Guenin's goal while logging 10:35 TOI...in addition, the center scored the Ducks' only goal, the first of his career, in a 1-0 shutout over San Jose on Oct. 14.

CRUNCH TIME: In Syracuse (AHL), right wing Kyle Palmieri was named AHL Player of the Week for Oct. 10-16 after collecting 4-2=6 points with a +5 rating in two games...Palmieri, who won the same award twice as a rookie last season, recorded his third career hat trick to lead the Crunch to a 6-2 victory over Adirondack on Oct. 15 at the War Memorial at Oncenter...linemates Nick Bonino and Patrick Maroon have also gotten off to fast starts, notching 1-4=5 points and 2-3=5 points, respectively...the top line combination of Palmieri, Bonino and Maroon has scored seven of Syracuse's 11 goals and combined for 16 points (7-9=16) in the club's two victories...in net, goaltender Jeff Deslauriers has posted a 2-0-0 record with a 2.93 GAA and .909 SV% in back-to-back games with the Crunch this past weekend.
