Ducks Notes Through December 12
DUCKS HOST PHOENIX WEDNESDAY: The Anaheim Ducks (8-16-5, 21 pts.) return to Honda Center for the last time before the Christmas holiday to take on the Phoenix Coyotes (7:05 p.m. PST, PRIME TICKET/AM 830)...the Ducks are in the midst of an eight-game stretch (began on Dec. 8 at St. Louis) in which only one contest takes place at Honda Center...following Wednesday's contest, the Ducks play five consecutive contests on the road (divided into three trips)...the next three games will take place during a five-game trip that begins on Thursday and makes stops in Chicago (Dec. 16), Winnipeg (Dec. 17) and Dallas (Dec. 19)...Anaheim enters Wednesday's contest having gone 6-for-24 (25.0%) on the power play over the last eight games.

DUCKS-COYOTES:
Wednesday marks the third of six contests against division rival Phoenix…all-time, Anaheim is 53-30-14 against the Coyotes, including a 29-14-7 mark at Honda Center...the Ducks have lost both contests against Phoenix in 2011-12, a 5-4 defeat at Honda Center on Oct. 23, in which Ryan Getzlaf scored two goals in the contest; and a 4-2 loss on Nov. 23 at Jobing.com Arena…Teemu Selanne leads Anaheim in all-time scoring against the Coyotes, picking up 35-38=73 points in 73 career contests…the remaining three contests between the Ducks and Coyotes take place on the following dates: Jan. 18 at Honda Center, Jan. 31 at Jobing.com Arena and Mar. 31 at Jobing.com Arena…the Mar. 31 contest will serve as the 100th contest between the clubs (including Winnipeg games from 1993-96).

A NEW BEGINNING IN ANAHEIM:
Named the eighth head coach of the Anaheim Ducks on Nov. 30, Bruce Boudreau enters Wednesday's game with an NHL coaching record of 202-91-41 in 334 career games (.666 winning percentage)...he secured his first win as head coach of the Anaheim Ducks on Dec. 6 in a 3-2 victory over Los Angeles...previously serving as head coach of the Washington Capitals (2007-11), Boudreau won the 2007-08 Jack Adams award (NHL Coach of the Year) and led his club to the 2009-10 Presidents’ Trophy as the NHL’s top club in the regular season...he became the fastest coach in modern day NHL history to win 200 games (Nov. 21, 2011 vs. Phoenix) and recorded more wins (184) in his first 300 NHL games than any NHL coach all-time.

BREAKAWAY BAR & GRILL GRAND OPENING TOMORROW: On Tuesday, Dec. 13 at 11 a.m., the Ducks, in partnership with HMSHost and John Wayne Airport, will host a grand opening media event at the brand-new Anaheim Ducks Breakaway Bar & Grill (restaurant opens to the general public on Dec. 14)…the Breakaway Bar & Grill is an upscale, yet comfortable dining option for the almost nine million passengers who travel through John Wayne annually...guests will dine on menu items that feature gourmet twists on favorite fare, as well as sip from a selection of hockey-themed signature beverages while enjoying live Anaheim Ducks and NHL action…the Breakaway Bar & Grill is the only restaurant location at John Wayne Airport with an optimal runway-facing view.

PLAYER NOTABLES
- Teemu Selanne enters Wednesday's game on a five-game point streak (1-5=6) and has scored 4-10=14 points in the last 12 games...the 41-year-old winger scored his 900th point as a Duck with an assist on Saturday night at Nashville (see more info in notes below)...he had back-to-back multi-assist nights (0-2=2 each night) on Dec. 4 vs. Minnesota and Dec. 6 vs. Los Angeles...he leads the Ducks in points and assists (tied for eighth in the NHL in assists) and ranks third in goals.
- Ryan Getzlaf has 2-11=13 points over his last 12 games, including points in 10 of the 12...he had a seven-game point/assist streak (1-9=10) from Nov. 16-30...the assist streak is the longest in the NHL this season.
- Corey Perry has 6-7=13 points over the last 12 games, with points in 10 of the 12...he also had a seven-game point streak (5-5=10) from Nov. 16-30, tied for the second-longest in the NHL this season (several players)...in addition, Perry currently ranks tied for third in the NHL in PPG (7)...he leads the teams with 12 goals on the season.
- Bobby Ryan has 3-1=4 points in the last four games and 5-2=7 points in the last eight contests...he ranks second on the club in goals this season (10).
- Saku Koivu has 3-6=9 points in his last 10 games (missed last game with a lower body injury).

IRON MEN: Ducks center Andrew Cogliano moved up the NHL's "Iron Man" list when Tampa Bay's Martin St. Louis missed his first contest in 499 consecutive games on Dec. 8...Cogliano now ranks tied for third (with CGY's Iginla) on the NHL's active iron man list, having played in 357 consecutive games...Cogliano has never missed an NHL game in his career (made his debut with Edmonton on Oct. 4, 2007)...Calgary's Jay Bouwmeester ranks first on the active iron man list, having played in 535 consecutive games, while Vancouver's Henrik Sedin ranks second with 528...right wing Corey Perry currently ranks eighth on the list at 232 consecutive games, a streak that dates back to Jan. 11, 2009.

ON LOAN: On Thursday, Dec. 8, the Ducks loaned right wing Devante Smith-Pelly to Hockey Canada for the 2012 IIHF World Junior Championship, to be played in Calgary & Edmonton, Alberta...Smith-Pelly, 19 (6/14/92), has appeared in 26 contests with Anaheim this season, scoring 3-2=5 points with 10 penalty minutes (PIM)...at 19 years, three months and 23 days, Smith-Pelly was the third-youngest Duck to appear in an NHL contest on Oct. 7 at Buffalo (Helsinki, Finland)…the Scarborough, Ontario scored his first NHL goal on Nov. 9 vs. Nashville (Rinne).

FARM REPORT: On Monday, Dec. 5, USA Hockey named Ducks prospects Emerson Etem (right wing) and John Gibson (goaltender) to the preliminary roster for the 2012 U.S. National Junior Team...Etem has scored 29-30=59 points in 33 games for Medicine Hat, ranking second in the WHL in goals and tied for second in points, while leading all skaters in SHG (7)...Etem was named the WHL’s Player of the Month for Sept./Oct. (21-10=31 points with a +12 rating) after posting a career-high 17-game point streak (23-16=39) from Sept. 28-Nov. 5...Gibson has appeared in 21 contests for the Kitchener Rangers (OHL), posting a 14-6-0-0 record with a 2.52 GAA and .933 SV%...among OHL goaltenders, Gibson ranks third in SV%, tied for fifth in GAA and fourth in wins...the final roster for the 2012 U.S. National Junior Team is expected to be named on Dec. 22...other Anaheim prospects are also making waves in their respective leagues: in NCAA hockey, junior defenseman Justin Schultz ranks tied for second among ALL Div. 1 players in scoring and also ranks tied for second in assists with 9-19=28 points in 18 games...he scored two goals in Wisconsin's 3-3 tie with Minnesota-Duluth on Friday, Dec. 9...the Wisconsin Badger (WCHA) is the only defenseman ranked in the top 20 among all NCAA scorers this season...in Syracuse (AHL), right wing Kyle Palmieri (who was recalled to Anaheim on Dec. 9) continues to lead the AHL with 17 goals and ranks tied for 10th with 17-9=26 points in 18 games...in his final three AHL games before his recall, he had a three-game point streak (5-3=8), including a four-point effort (3-1=4) and his second hat trick of the season on Dec. 7 vs. St. John's...Palmieri also continues to rank third among AHL leaders in plus/minus (+15)...left wing Patrick Maroon ranks second on the club with 10-15=25 points in 23 contests…in the OHL, Kingston goaltender Igor Bobkov ranks second among league leaders in saves (890) while Plymouth's Rickard Rakell co-leads his team in goals and ranks second in points (16-20=36 points in 31 games).

ONE MORE YEAR: 41-year-old right winger Teemu Selanne is in the midst of his 20th NHL season and 13th with the Ducks...in 1,288 career NHL games with Winnipeg, Anaheim, San Jose and Colorado, Selanne has earned 646-723=1,369 points...he currently ranks 13th on the NHL’s all-time goal scoring list (second among active players; Jagr), 46th in assists (fourth among active players), and tied for 23rd in points (third among active players)...with an assist on Dec. 10 at Nashville, Selanne collected his 900th career point as a Duck and tied Johnny Bucyk for 23rd in all-time points…his two goals on Nov. 1 vs. Washington moved him past Dave Andreychuk for 13th on the all-time goals list...on Nov. 16 at Los Angeles, Teemu scored his 238th career PPG to move past Brendan Shanahan for sole possession of fifth on the all-time PPG list...in 803 career contests with Anaheim, Selanne has scored 419-481=900 points with 419 PIM and a +123 rating...he is the club's all-time leader in goals, points, assists, games played, plus/minus, PPG (167), PPP (378), GWG (69), shots (2,636) and OT goals (6)...since competing in his first game with the Ducks on Feb. 10, 1996, Selanne has become the fifth-fastest player to reach 900 points with one NHL club in that time (Iginla (CGY), 1027; Alfredsson (OTT), 998; Sakic (COL), 934; Lidstrom (DET), 905 & Selanne (ANA), 900))…not factored in are Selanne’s 80-83=163 points in 254 games with San Jose and Colorado within that time period since 1996 (statistic courtesy Elias Sports Bureau).

ALL-TIME: The Ducks enter Wednesday's game with a 612-585-194 record for 1,418 standings points and a .510 win percentage in 1,391 all-time games...the club will play its 1,400th game on Jan. 4, 2012 vs. San Jose at Honda Center...since the beginning of 2005-06, the Ducks have posted a regular season record of 274-185-62 (.585%), including a 156-76-29 mark at Honda Center (.653 win percentage)...Anaheim has also qualified for postseason play in five of the last six seasons, one of only seven teams to accomplish the feat (also MTL, NYR, PHI, DET, SJ and NSH).
