The Ducks have reassigned goaltender Iiro Tarkki to the Syracuse Crunch, Anaheim’s primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).

Tarkki, 26 (7/1/1985), was recalled from Syracuse on Jan. 8 and made his NHL debut that evening vs. Columbus, coming on in relief of Jonas Hiller late in the first period. In 40:51 of play, Tarkki stopped 7-of-10 shots and picked up his first career win in a 7-4 Anaheim victory. He dressed but did not play in the club’s contest on Jan. 10 vs. Dallas.

Signed by Anaheim as a free agent on May 6, 2011, Tarkki has posted a 9-11-1 record with one shutout, a 2.85 goals-against average (GAA) and .916 save percentage (SV%) in 23 games with Syracuse this season. He currently ranks fifth among AHL goaltenders in saves (672). Tarkki earned his first career win and shutout on Oct. 26 at Lake Erie, stopping all 25 shots faced in a 7-0 Syracuse victory. The 6-3, 185-pound goaltender recorded a season-high three-game winning streak from Nov. 18-25 with a 2.58 GAA (8 GA/186 MIN) and .934 SV% (113-of-121).
 
A native of Rauma, Finland, Tarkki spent the last two seasons with the Espoo Blues of the Finnish Elite League. He appeared in 55 games with the Blues in 2010-11, posting a 2.09 GAA, .924 save percentage SV% and five shutouts. Tarkki tied for the league lead in appearances during the regular season, ranked seventh in GAA and eighth in SV%. He helped lead the Blues to the Finish Elite League Playoff finals in 2011, compiling a 2.19 GAA, .924 SV% and three shutouts.
