Ducks Acquire Holzapfel from Winnipeg in Exchange for Macenauer

The Ducks have acquired center Riley Holzapfel from the Winnipeg Jets in exchange for center Maxime Macenauer.

Holzapfel, 23 (8/18/88), appeared in 29 games for Winnipeg’s American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate in St. John’s this season, collecting 8-7=15 points with a +7 rating and eight penalty minutes (PIM). Holzapfel has played four AHL seasons with Chicago (2007-11) and St. John’s (2011-12), earning 40-57=97 points with a +13 rating and 96 PIM in 231 career games. The 6-0, 185-pound center also made his Calder Cup Playoffs debut in 2010 with Chicago, recording 0-3=3 points with six PIM in 14 games.

Selected by Atlanta (now Winnipeg) in the second round (43rd overall) of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, Holzapfel played four seasons in the Western Hockey League (WHL) with Moose Jaw from 2004-08. In 248 career WHL games, Holzapfel scored 91-117=208 points with a +37 rating and 215 PIM. He also skated in 33 career WHL playoff games with the Warriors, collecting 11-16=27 points with a +12 rating and 40 PIM. A native of Regina Saskatchewan, Holzapfel helped Team Canada to gold at the 2008 IIHF World Junior Championship in the Czech Republic.

Macenauer, 23 (1/4/89), made his NHL debut this season, scoring 1-3=4 points with 18 PIM in 29 contests for Anaheim. A native of Laval, Quebec, Macenauer scored his first career NHL goal (Greiss), the game-winner on Oct. 14 vs. San Jose (1-0). The 6-0, 202-pound center also appeared in 13 contests with Syracuse (AHL) this season, earning 4-2=6 points with two PIM. Selected by Anaheim in the third round (63rd overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, Macenauer has appeared in 92 career AHL contests, earning 17-21=38 points with 67 PIM.
