Ducks Sign Left Wing Mitchell to Two-Year Contract
The Ducks have signed left wing John Mitchell to a two-year contract. Per club policy, no financial terms of the deal were disclosed.
Mitchell, 25 (7/10/86), appeared in 50 games last season with Syracuse, Anaheim’s primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL). The 6-5, 216-pound winger scored 8-10=18 points with a +7 rating and 23 penalty minutes (PIM) with the Crunch, matching a career high in assists and establishing a personal best in plus/minus. He also appeared in four Calder Cup Playoff games with Syracuse last month, scoring one goal in an opening-round series loss to St. John’s.
A native of Neenah, Wisconsin, Mitchell made his professional debut with Syracuse in 2010-11 and has appeared in 110 career AHL games, collecting 17-20=37 points with a +6 rating and 87 PIM. Prior to signing his first AHL contract in 2010, Mitchell played four seasons for the University of Wisconsin (WCHA) from 2006-10. He scored 32-29=61 points with 242 PIM in 139 career WCHA games, helping lead the Badgers to a Frozen Four championship appearance in 2010 against eventual winner Boston College.
