Ducks to Host Conditioning Camp Scrimmages July 2-3
Organization’s Top Prospects to Spend Six Days Training at THE RINKS – Anaheim ICE June 28-July 3
The Ducks will host the club's annual prospect conditioning camp scrimmages at THE RINKS – Anaheim ICE on Monday, July 2 and Tuesday, July 3 beginning at 10 a.m. Fans and media are invited to attend the hour-long open scrimmage sessions, which are free of charge to the general public. Anaheim’s top prospects and the club’s 2012 NHL Entry Draft selections will participate in both on-ice and off-ice workouts at Anaheim ICE throughout the conditioning camp, running June 28-July 3 (only the annual scrimmages are open to the public).
All eight Anaheim selections from the 2012 NHL Entry Draft are scheduled to attend, including Hampus Lindholm (first round, sixth overall), Orange County native Nicolas Kerdiles (second round, 36th overall), Frederik Andersen (third round, 87th overall), Kevin Roy (fourth round, 97th overall), Andrew O’Brien (fourth round, 108th overall), Brian Cooper (fifth round, 127th overall), Kenton Helgesen (seventh round, 187th overall), and Jaycob Megna (seventh round, 210th overall). In addition, former first-round selections Rickard Rakell (30th overall, 2011), Emerson Etem (29th overall, 2010), and Peter Holland (15th overall, 2009) will participate, along with Devante Smith-Pelly (42nd overall, 2010). Of the 30 players expected to attend the camp, six countries are represented, including the United States, Canada, Sweden, Finland, Russia and Denmark.
The six-day camp focuses on both the on- and off-ice development of the organization’s top young prospects. In addition to on-ice skating sessions, each player will participate in strength and conditioning drills that allow coaches and management to closely evaluate the progress of each athlete. Along with daily weight and aerobic training, each player will also receive a personally tailored nutritional recommendation and be tested for strength thresholds, range of movement and aerobic capacity.
