Season Overview
Jonas Hiller played in his fifth NHL season (all with the Ducks) in 2011-12. It was an important campaign for the goaltender, who bounced back from a lengthy absence with vertigo symptoms during the previous year.

The 30-year-old netminder rarely took a night off for Anaheim. He set franchise records for both games played (73, also tied for first in the league) and starts (73). Hiller came up one win shy of his career high, finishing the season with a 29-30-12 record. He posted a 2.57 goals-against average, .910 save percentage and four shutouts.

Despite playing in so many contests, Hiller seemed to get stronger as the season went on. His best play came once the calendar flipped to 2012. From Jan. 1 to the end of the regular season, he ranked tied for sixth in wins (20, with New Jersey's Martin Brodeur) and eighth in GAA (2.11, min. 20 appearances).

Highlight
While any of Hiller's four shutouts could make for an argument as his best game of the season, his blanking of the Panthers on Feb. 19 stands out the most. The 31-save shutout came during a big road trip for the Ducks, which saw the team get points in seven out of eight games (five wins) and climb back over the .500 mark for the first time in more than three months. The shutout capped off a week in which Hiller went 3-0-1, with a 0.98 GAA and .961 SV% in four games. He would earn the NHL's First Star of the Week for his efforts. In two career games at Florida's BankAtlantic Center, Hiller has yet to allow a goal. He also recorded a 33-save shutout over the Panthers on February 1, 2010.

By the Numbers
32, consecutive games that Hiller started from January 12 - March 18, setting a new franchise record (previously 23, held by both J.S. Giguere and Guy Hebert). During that stretch, he compiled a 17-10-5 record, 1.92 GAA, .927 SV% and three shutouts. It was the longest streak of starts in the league since San Jose's Antti Niemi had a 34-game streak from January 15 - April 4, 2011.

Looking Forward
Back to full strength after his bout with vertigo during 2011, Hiller proved he ranks among the league's best goaltenders with his performance during the second half of the 2011-12 season. With Viktor Fasth possibly in the mix as his backup for next season, Hiller may get to rest a little more in the future in comparison to that record 73 starts last season. Anaheim has the netminder under contract for two more seasons, through the 2013-14 campaign.

Personal
Spends the offseason in the resort town of Davos in his native Switzerland. Enjoys playing tennis, beach volleyball and sailing on his family's boat in Switzerland. Hiller is an automobile enthusiast and spends his summers fixing cars with his friends at a local body shop in his hometown. He is fluent in German, French and English. He has played in three international tournaments with Switzerland, the 2010 Olympics, plus the 2007 and 2008 IIHF World Championships.

He Said It
"With whatever I went through at the end of last year, I’m definitely happy how it went this year for me personally. I showed that I am able to play at the highest level in this league and I think I can play better. I’m already excited for next year." - Jonas Hiller
