Season Overview
Anaheim’s captain completed his seventh season in the NHL (all with the Ducks) in 2011-12.

The 27-year-old led the Ducks in assists for the fifth straight campaign, with 46 helpers during the season. His goal total slipped to just 11 though, the lowest total of his career. Getzlaf's 57 points tied him for third on the team in that category. Despite the dip in goals, he picked big moments to light the lamp with four game-winning tallies (tied for second on Anaheim).

Ryan Getzlaf Video Highlights

Among centers across the league, Getzlaf finished ninth with a total of 182 hits (also second on the Ducks, four hits behind leader Luca Sbisa). He also saw a good chunk of minutes, ranking third among league forwards in total time on ice (1,771:09) and fourth in average TOI (21:35).

Highlight
The first notch in Anaheim’s season-high five-game win streak came in a 5-0 trouncing of the Oilers on the road at Rexall Place on Jan. 13. Getzlaf was dominant during the evening, factoring into most of the scoring with a season-high four points (all on four assists, one shy of his career-best from Oct. 29, 2008).

By the Numbers
335, career assists for Getzlaf since making his NHL debut during the 2005-06 season. That mark ranks first (31 more than second-place Eric Staal and in 130 games less than the Hurricanes center) among all members of the famed 2003 draft class, considered by many to be one of the best in league history.

Looking Forward
Heading into the final season of his contract, Getzlaf is eager to bounce back from last season. Even in the down year he had in 2011-12, the two-time All-Star still tied for 18th in the league with his 46 assists. When at his best, the Ducks captain has shown the ability to be one of the best players in the league. He could easily get back to hovering around the top five in the league in both assists and points. Centering the top forward line and being on the first power play unit, Getzlaf will continue to see plenty of opportunities to accumulate points.

Personal
After Anaheim’s season concluded, Getzlaf joined Team Canada in the 2012 IIHF World Championships and served as the team captain. Though Canada was upset by Slovakia in the quarterfinals, Getzlaf played well in the tournament by tying for second on the club with nine points in eight games.  The center has previously won gold medals for Canada at the 2010 Winter Olympics and 2005 IIHF World Junior Championships. He also has won silver medals in the 2008 IIHF World Championships and 2004 World Junior Championships.

Getzlaf was married to wife, Paige, in 2010 and the couple has one son, Ryder. During the offseason, the family resides in Kelowna, British Columbia. Getzlaf’s brother, Chris, is a wide receiver in the Canadian Football League with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. The Regina, Saskatchewan native worked at a wildlife park in his hometown as a youth.

He Said It
“We proved in the second half that we’re close. The way we played in that second half of the season would have put us right in the middle of it. The hole that we dug was a little too deep for us to get out of. We have to be well aware of that coming into camp next year.” – Ryan Getzlaf
