Tuesday, 07.31.2012 / 1:56 PM / News
The Ducks have announced that the THE RINKS – Anaheim ICE will host the 2012 Glacier Falls Summer Classic figure skating competition beginning Thursday, Aug. 2 through Sunday, Aug. 5. Over 400 of the world’s top figure skaters at all competitive levels are expected to participate in one of the largest non-qualification summer competitions in the United States. The Glacier Falls Summer Classic is largely considered figure skating’s unofficial kick-off to the upcoming 2012-13 season.

The Glacier Falls Summer Classic will also serve as one of U.S. Figure Skating’s “Summer Team USA Camp” competitions. The event allows many skaters an opportunity to showcase their new programs to national and international judges and officials prior to the 2012-13 season competitions that include the Grand Prix, Junior Grand Prix and Senior B events.

Featuring some of figure skating’s top talent both nationally and internationally, Southern California standouts Richard Dornbush of Corona (2011 U.S. Men’s silver medalist) and Mirai Nagasu of Arcadia (2008 U.S. Ladies Champion and 2011 Ladies silver medalist) will both compete in the Classic. Other elite Southern California skaters scheduled to compete in the Senior Ladies events are Vanessa Lam (Bellflower), Carolyn Ann-Alba (Anaheim), Sophia Adams (Orange) and Courtney Hicks (Chino Hills). In addition, local standouts Sean Rabbitt (Yorba Linda) and Jay Yostanto (Yorba Linda) will appear in the respective Senior and Junior Men’s competitions.

The Junior and Senior level competition schedules are listed below. All events are open to the public with an all-day ticket costing $10 at the door. A complete schedule (including all levels) can be found at www.glacierfalls.com.

Anaheim ICE is the Official Training Center of the Anaheim Ducks and an original member of the Anaheim Ducks’ THE RINKS development program. The Ducks operate six local skating facilities within THE RINKS program, including three ice rinks (THE RINKS – Anaheim ICE, THE RINKS – Westminster ICE and THE RINKS –Yorba Linda ICE), as well as three inline facilities (THE RINKS – Huntington Beach Inline THE RINKS – Irvine Inline and THE RINKS – Corona Inline). Anaheim ICE is located at 300 W. Lincoln Avenue, Anaheim, CA 92805.
