The Ducks today announced an expansion to the Anaheim Ducks High School Hockey League (ADHSHL) for the 2012-13 season. Corona del Mar High School, Huntington Beach High School, Los Alamitos High School and Corona-Norco have been added to the four-year-old league, increasing the participation level to 12 schools. The ADHSHL has grown to 14 teams since its inception, including a league-record nine varsity teams in 2012-13. League play begins this Saturday, Sept. 15 at THE RINKS – Anaheim ICE Presented by Honda.

“Having 14 teams join the Anaheim Ducks High School Hockey League in such a short time span is an amazing accomplishment,” said Vice President – THE RINKS Art Trottier. “This speaks to the growth of the game of hockey and the commitment of the participating schools, players and families.”

Four Anaheim Ducks alumni will be coaching in the ADHSHL this season, including Santa Margarita Head Coach Craig Johnson, Orange Lutheran Head Coach Jason Marshall, Los Alamitos Head Coach David Karpa and Los Alamitos Assistant Coach Jeff Freisen. Last March, the league held its 2012 championship games at Honda Center, as JSerra Catholic High and Damien High won varsity and junior varsity titles, respectively. In addition, the ADHSHL hosted its inaugural All-Star Games at Honda Center last January with players representing each varsity and junior varsity team.

The Ducks launched the Anaheim Ducks High School Hockey League on July 1, 2008 with JSerra Catholic High School (San Juan Capistrano) as its charter member. Santa Margarita Catholic High (Santa Margarita) was added in 2009 and joined by Servite High (Anaheim), Damien High (La Verne) and Lutheran High School of Orange County (Orange) in 2010-11. Last year, the ADHSHL swelled to 11 teams with the inclusion of Bishop Amat/Upland Christian Academy, Edison High School (Huntington Beach) and Long Beach Prep. As the league continues to grow, the Anaheim Ducks will continue to provide financial support for each team involved in the program.
