Ducks Honor Armed Forces Throughout November
Food Drive, Letter-Writing Campaign and Camouflage Jersey Auction Included During Month-long Series of Military Appreciation Events
In honor of Veterans Day, the Ducks and mascot Wild Wing delivered nonperishable food items and toiletries to Veterans First in Santa Ana earlier this afternoon (see attached photos). The items were collected as part of an Anaheim Ducks and Honda Center staff drive spearheaded by the Community Relations department.
Throughout the month, Ducks fans are encouraged to send personal letters to currently deployed members of the U.S. Armed Forces. The letters will be sent around the world with the help of Operation Gratitude. The Ducks will be collecting letters until Nov. 30, which can be sent via email to firstname.lastname@example.org or in the mail to Anaheim Ducks Community Relations, 2695 East Katella Avenue, Anaheim, CA 92806. Fans are encouraged to begin with a salutation such as “Dear Service Member” or “Dear Hero.” Topics can include thanking the service member for his/her selfless service and news/information on life back at home.
Beginning Nov. 26, the Ducks will host an online auction of a limited-edition camouflage jersey and other military-themed items through AnaheimDucks.com. The highest bidder for the jersey will have the opportunity have it personalized through the Anaheim Ducks Team Store. All funds raised through the camouflage jersey auction will benefit Defending the Blueline.
Veterans First is the only 501c(3) agency in Orange County that works to provide services exclusively to our region’s homeless and at-risk veterans. The organization provides a multitude of services including housing, meals, case management, life skills, mental health counseling, benefit counseling, transportation, as well as job training and employment placement assistance.
Operation Gratitude annually sends 100,000 care packages filled with snacks, entertainment items and personal letters of appreciation addressed to individually named U.S. Service Members deployed in hostile regions, to their children left behind and to Wounded Warriors, Veterans and First Responders. Our mission is to lift morale, bring a smile to a service member’s face and express to our Armed Forces the appreciation and support of the American people. Each package contains donated product valued at $75-100 and costs the organization $15 to assemble and ship. For safety and security, assembling of packages occurs at the Army National Guard armory in Van Nuys, California. Since its inception in 2003, Operation Gratitude volunteers have shipped more than 815,000 packages to American Military members.
Defending the Blue Line
Defending The Blue Line is ensuring that children of military members are afforded every opportunity to participate in the game of hockey. We accomplish this by providing free equipment for military kids, hockey camps, special events, and financial assistance for registration fees and other costs associated with hockey.
