Ducks Recall Goaltender Fasth from Norfolk

Monday, 01.21.2013 / 2:07 AM / News

The Ducks have recalled goaltender Viktor Fasth from the Norfolk Admirals, Anaheim’s primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL). In addition, the club has reassigned goaltender Frederik Andersen to Norfolk.

Fasth, 30 (8/8/82), appeared in three games with Norfolk this season, going 1-2-0 with a 1.96 goals-against average (GAA) and a .914 save percentage (SV%). Assigned to the Admirals on Jan. 15, Fasth made his North American debut that night against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in a 4-2 loss. He earned his first career AHL win on Jan. 18 vs. St. John’s, stopping 20-of-22 shots and all five shootout attempts for a 3-2 victory.

Signed as a free agent by Anaheim on May 21, 2012, Fasth began the season with Tingsryd of Sweden’s second division (Allsvenskan), posting a 1.68 GAA and .942 SV%. He was named the Swedish Elite League’s “Goaltender of the Year” (Honken Trophy) in 2011-12 after compiling a league-low 2.12 GAA and .934 SV%, including five shutouts in 46 contests. The first goalie since Henrik Lundqvist (Vastra Frolunda, 2002-05) to win the Honken Trophy in consecutive seasons, Fasth also ranked second in shutouts and saves (1,290), and third in SV% and wins (19).

Andersen, 23 (10/2/89), did not appear in Anaheim’s season-opening victory over the Vancouver Canucks last night at Rogers Arena. Andersen has appeared in 21 games for Norfolk this season, going 7-10-1 with a 2.48 GAA and a .924 SV%. Selected in the third round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, the Herning, Denmark native currently leads the Admirals in GAA and SV%, and is tied for the team lead in wins.
