Ducks Notes: Anaheim Takes 6-1-1 Start on the Road for Six-Game Trip

DUCKS TAKE FAST START ON THE ROAD FOR SEASON-HIGH SIX-GAME TRIP: The Anaheim Ducks (6-1-1, 13 pts.) look to extend their win streak to four consecutive games as they open a season-high six-game road trip in Colorado tomorrow...the club is off to its best start through the first eight games of the season since 2006-07 (6-0-2, 14 points)...additionally, Anaheim's 28 goals through the first eight contests (does not count shootout goal awarded for Nashville win on Jan. 26) marks the highest team goal output in club history (previously 23, 2006-07 & 2005-06)...Anaheim's 3.50 goals-per-game average currently ranks third in the NHL...the Ducks have won three consecutive games overall and have earned points in five straight (4-0-1)...on the road, Anaheim has gained points in three straight (2-0-1, 5 points), equaling the best start on the road in club history (also 2006-07 & 2009-10, both 2-0-1)...the club also owns the sixth-best power play in the league (7-for-27, 25.9%) and third-best on the road (3-for-9, 33.3%)...following Wednesday's contest, the Ducks continue their season-long trip which includes stops in Dallas (Friday, Feb. 8), St. Louis (Saturday, Feb. 9), Chicago (Feb. 12), Detroit (Feb. 15) and Nashville (Feb. 16).

Fasth

OFFSEASON ACQUISITIONS MAKING IMPACT: Several off-season acquisitions have made major impacts for the Ducks to start the season…signed as a free agent on July 20, 2012, Daniel Winnik (5-2=7) became the first player in club history to score five times in the first four games of any regular season…he tied for 10th among NHL leaders in goals and tied for fourth in plus/minus (+8) through eight games this season…signed as a free agent on July 1, 2012, Sheldon Souray netted his third goal of the season – and first game-winner – in Monday’s 2-1 victory over the San Jose Sharks…in eight games, Souray (3-2=5) ranks tied for third among NHL defensemen in goals and tied for 12th in plus/minus (+5)…he enters Wednesday’s game in Colorado only three goals shy of his 2011-12 total of six in 64 games with Dallas…also signed on July 1, 2012 to bring added size and strength to the club, defenseman Bryan Allen is averaging 19:15 minutes per game and ranks third on the team with 12 blocked shots…signed as a free agent on May 21, 2012, Viktor Fasth is the first goaltender in Ducks history to win his first three career NHL contests, including last Monday’s win over the Sharks…in addition, he is just the third goaltender in club history to win his first three decisions as a Duck (also Ray Emery in 2010-11, 6 consecutive wins; Curtis McElhinney in 2009-10, 4 consecutive wins)…over his three appearances with Anaheim, Fasth has stopped 70-of-74 shots for a 1.30 GAA (4 GA/185 MIN) and .946 SV%, good for second among all NHL goaltenders in both categories (min. 3 appearances).

FINNS CHIPPING IN WITH FAST START: Ducks forwards Teemu Selanne and Saku Koivu share the team lead in points through eight games...Selanne's 3-6=9 points (+3) through Anaheim's first eight games is his best start to a season since 1999-00 when he scored 3-6=9 points through eight games with the Ducks...in addition, Koivu's 2-7=9 points (+7) through eight games this year is his best start in over four years, when he had 4-6=10 points to start the 2008-09 season with Montreal.

MULTIPLE CONTRIBUTIONS: The Ducks are the only team in the NHL to have as many as nine players on the roster with five-or-more points this season (Bobby Ryan (7), Daniel Winnik (7), Ryan Getzlaf (8), Saku Koivu & Teemu Selanne (both 8), Corey Perry, Kyle Palmieri, Sheldon Souray, Nick Bonino (all 5 points))…five of those players have seven-or-more points, matching the most in the NHL (Winnipeg).

Boudreau

TOP BENCH BOSSES: Among all active NHL coaches, Ducks Head Coach Bruce Boudreau and Sharks Head Coach Todd McLellan own the top two winning percentages in the league…they are also the fastest two coaches in modern-day NHL history to reach 200 wins…Boudreau reached the 200-win mark Nov. 22, 2011 (w/Washington) in 326 games (200-86-40), the fastest in modern day history…Boudreau currently ranks third among active coaches with a .654 win percentage (234-112-48)...on Jan. 27 vs. Vancouver, San Jose coach Todd McLellan became the second-fastest coach in modern-day NHL history to win 200 games (now 202-93-42 in 337 career games) and owns a .662 win percentage, first among all active NHL coaches (Pittsburgh's Dan Bylsma is second with a .655 win percentage in 280 career games (171-84-25).

Selanne

#8 IS BACK FOR MORE: Teemu Selanne enters Wednesday's game one power-play goal shy of 250 in his career and is currently tied with Phil Esposito for third on the all-time list (249)...Selanne's 666th career goal on Feb. 2 vs. Los Angeles moved him past Doug Gilmour and into sole possession of 17th place on the all-time scoring list (1,415)...he is currently only one goal shy of matching Jaromir Jagr for 11th in all-time NHL goals...with his four points (2-2=4) on Jan. 19 at Vancouver, Teemu became the oldest NHL player to record four points since Gordie Howe (42 years, 326 days) with Detroit on Feb. 20, 1971 vs. Buffalo...in addition, Selanne ranks 42nd in all-time assists (one behind Larry Robinson) and sixth in all-time game-winning goals (three behind Brendan Shanahan)…in 1,349 career NHL games (WPG, ANA, SJ & COL), Selanne has scored 666-749=1,415 points with 249 PPG and 106 GWG...Selanne opened the 2012-13 season at 42 years, 6 months and 16 days as the oldest active player in the NHL and the oldest to ever compete in a Ducks uniform.
