Ducks Notes: Anaheim Continues Winning Ways on Road Trip
DUCKS TAKE TWO OF THREE TO START SIX-GAMER: The Pacific Division-leading Anaheim Ducks (8-2-1, 17 pts.) continue a season-high six-game road trip as they take on the Chicago Blackhawks (10-0-2, 22 pts.) tomorrow at the United Center...the game features the two top Western Conference teams to-date, as Chicago and Anaheim have combined for 39 points and a .848 winning percentage…the Ducks have gone 2-1-0 on the first three games of the road trip and won five of their last six overall (5-1-0)...in addition, Anaheim has earned points in five of its six road games thus far (4-1-1, 9 pts.)…the club is off to its best start through the first 11 games of the season since Anaheim went 8-0-3 for 19 points in 2006-07 (this is the club's second-best start ever)...additionally, Anaheim's 37 goals through the first 11 contests (shootout goals excluded) marks the highest team goal output in club history (previously 35, 2006-07)...Anaheim's 3.36 goals-per-game average currently ranks tied for third in the NHL, while its 5-on-5 goals for/against ratio ranks second in the league (1.75)...the club has 28 goals scored 5-on-5 this season, good for second in the NHL…following tomorrow's contest, the Ducks continue their season-long trip which includes stops in Detroit on Friday, Feb. 15 and Nashville on Saturday, Feb. 16.

Fasth

A VERY FASTH START: Signed as a free agent on May 21, 2012, Viktor Fasth is the first goaltender to win his first five starts since Dan Ellis (with Dallas/Nashville) won his first six starts from Feb. 18, 2004-Nov. 29, 2007 (9 games)...Fasth was also the first goaltender to win his first four NHL appearances since Nolan Schaefer (with San Jose) won his first five games from Oct.26-Nov. 4, 2005…Fasth is also the first goaltender in NHL history over age 30 to win his first five starts (no other player 30+ had won more than their first two games)...in his first six NHL appearances (one no decision), Fasth has stopped 138-of-148 shots for a 1.72 GAA (10 GA/349 MIN) and .932 SV%...he currently ranks fourth among NHL goaltenders in GAA and sixth in SV%...Fasth recorded his first career shutout on Feb. 6 at Colorado, stopping all 31 shots faced...in addition, he is just the second goaltender in club history to win his first five decisions as a Duck (also Ray Emery in 2010-11, 6 consecutive wins).

AGE-DEFYING FINNS: Ducks forwards Teemu Selanne and Saku Koivu rank first and second, respectively, among team leaders in points...Selanne's 4-10=14 points (+6) through Anaheim's first 11 games is his best start to a season since he had 4-10=14 in 11 games with the original Winnipeg Jets in 1995-96 at age 25...in addition, Koivu's 4-9=13 points (+11) through 11 games this year is his best start since 2000-01, when he had 6-7=13 points in the first 11 with Montreal...Koivu's +11 rating on the season leads all NHL players.

Selanne

LEADING AT 42: Teemu Selanne enters tomorrow's game one power-play goal shy of 250 in his career and is currently tied with Phil Esposito for third on the all-time list (249)...Selanne has recorded two four-point games this season, just the third and fourth time an NHL player 42 years or older has accomplished the feat...Selanne, who scored 1-3=4 points on Feb. 9 at St. Louis (at 42 years, 326 days) and 2-2=4 points on Jan. 19 at Vancouver, joins Gordie Howe (42 years, 326 days) with 1-3=4 points for Detroit on Feb. 20, 1971 vs. Buffalo and Tim Horton (42 years, 3 days) with 0-4=4 points for Pittsburgh on Jan. 15, 1972 vs. Philadelphia on the exclusive list...Selanne's four points on Feb. 9 moved him into a tie with Adam Oates for 16th on the all-time scoring list (1,420), while his three assists moved him past Larry Robinson and into sole possession of 41st on the all-time assists list (753)...he is currently only one goal shy of matching Jaromir Jagr (668) and Luc Robitaille (668) for 10th in all-time NHL goals...in addition, Selanne ranks sixth in all-time game-winning goals (three behind Brendan Shanahan)…in 1,352 career NHL games (WPG, ANA, SJ & COL), Selanne has scored 667-753=1,420 points with 249 PPG and 106 GWG...he opened the 2012-13 season at 42 years, 6 months and 16 days as the oldest active player in the NHL and the oldest to ever compete in a Ducks uniform.

Souray

WELCOME ADDITIONS: In addition to Swedish netminder Viktor Fasth, several off-season acquisitions have made major impacts for the Ducks to start the season…signed as a free agent on July 1, 2012, Sheldon Souray has notched 4-3=7 points (+10) this season, ranking first among NHL defensemen in plus/minus, tied for second in goals and tied for 12th in scoring...he also ranks second overall in the NHL - behind only teammate Saku Koivu (+11) - in plus/minus...Souray netted his fourth goal of the season - and second consecutive game-winner (his two GWG rank tied for fifth in the NHL) - in a 3-0 victory Feb. 6 at Colorado…the last time Souray posted back-to-back game-winning goals was Dec. 22-26, 2008 with Edmonton (two games)...in addition, the back-to-back game winners marked the first by a defenseman in club history...he enters tomorrow's game just two goals shy of his 2011-12 total of six in 64 games with Dallas…signed as a free agent on July 20, 2012, Daniel Winnik (5-2=7) became the first player in club history to score five times in the first four games of any regular season…he is tied for third among NHL leaders in plus/minus (+9) through 11 games this season…also signed on July 1, 2012 to bring added size and strength to the club, defenseman Bryan Allen is averaging 18:37 minutes per game and co-leads the team with 22 blocked shots.

TOP BENCH BOSSES: Among all active NHL coaches, Ducks Head Coach Bruce Boudreau ranks second in win percentage (.655), compiling a 236-113-49 record in 398 career games...Boudreau, along with San Jose coach Todd McLellan are the two fastest coaches in modern-day NHL history to reach 200 wins…Boudreau reached the 200-win mark Nov. 22, 2011 (w/Washington) in 326 games (200-86-40), the fastest in modern day history...on Jan. 27 vs. Vancouver, McLellan became the second-fastest coach in modern-day NHL history to win 200 games (now 202-94-43 in 339 career games) and owns a .659 win percentage, first among all active NHL coaches.
