Ducks Continue Hot Start With 5-2 Win at Detroit
The Pacific Division-leading Anaheim Ducks improved to 4-1-0 on a season-long six-game road trip with a 5-2 victory over the Detroit Red Wings tonight at Joe Louis Arena. While this remains the club's best overall start (10-2-1) since 2006-07 (and second-best in club history), Anaheim's 6-1-1 start on the road is the club's best ever. The Ducks (10-2-1, 21 points) are now eight points ahead of last year’s pace after 13 games (5-5-3 in 2011-12, 13 points). The club improved to 5-2-1 when opponents score first (also 5-0-0 when scoring first), compared to its 12-27-5 mark last season. Anaheim had lost eight consecutive regular season games in Detroit dating to Dec. 1, 2008 prior to tonight’s victory. Head Coach Bruce Boudreau celebrated his 400th career NHL game behind the bench with the victory. With his assist on Bobby Ryan’s third-period goal, Teemu Selanne surpassed Adam Oates for sole possession of 16th place on the all-time NHL scoring list (667-754=1,421). Selanne is now only one assist shy of tying Doug Weight (755) for 40th on the all-time assists list and four points from matching Bryan Trottier (1,425) for 15th on the all-time points list. Andrew Cogliano paced all skaters with two goals – his fifth career multi-goal game – to extend his goal-scoring streak (4-0=4) to a career-tying three games (last: Mar. 7-11, 2008; 4-0=1).

Fasth

Viktor Fasth (7-0-0, 8 games) currently owns the longest winning streak to begin an NHL career since Dan Ellis (with Dallas/Nashville) won his first seven decisions from Feb. 18, 2004-Dec. 1, 2007 (10 games). The record for consecutive winning decisions to start an NHL career is nine by Ray Emery with Ottawa from Jan. 8, 2003-Nov. 29, 2005 (12 games). Fasth is the first goaltender in club history to win his first seven decisions as a Duck (previous mark held by Ray Emery in 2010-11, 6 consecutive wins). Fasth's current seven-game win streak is also the NHL's longest this season (last such streak of 7 games was by Ilya Bryzgalov w/PHI from Mar. 1-15, 2012). Fasth was already the first goaltender to win his first four NHL appearances since Nolan Schaefer (with San Jose) won his first five games from Oct. 26-Nov. 4, 2005 (Fasth's streak was broken by no-decision in his fifth game in relief). In addition, Fasth is the first goaltender in NHL history over age 30 to win his first seven decisions.
