Ducks Sign Sarault To Three-Year Entry-Level Contract

Tuesday, 03.05.2013 / 6:37 PM / News
The Ducks have signed center Charlie Sarault to a three-year, entry-level contract. Per club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Sarault, 21 (2/20/92), leads the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) in scoring, notching 22-80=102 points with a +18 rating and 28 penalty minutes in 63 contests this season for the Sarnia Sting. With five regular season games remaining on Sarnia’s schedule, Sarault is on pace for 110 points, which would mark the most by an OHL player since the 2007-08 season (four players). In addition, Sarault’s 102 points currently rank third in the entire Canadian Hockey League (OHL, Western Hockey League and Quebec Major Junior Hockey League).

A native of Fournier, Ontario, Sarault’s 80 assists and 30 power play assists (also Owen Sound’s Cody Ceci) also lead the OHL. He recorded a career-high seven-assist night (0-7=7) as part of Sarnia’s 13-3 victory over Erie on Feb. 22. It marked the most points by a Sting player all season and the club’s 13 team goals marked the most in franchise history (previously 11 during 1998-99 season). The Sting captain strung together a season-best eight-game point streak (5-14=19, +13) from Dec. 9, 2012 – Jan. 5, 2013. In addition, the 5-11, 184-pound center was named the OHL’s Player of the Week for Nov. 26 - Dec. 2 after collecting 2-6=8 points with a +5 rating over three contests. His 5-18=23 points in 11 contests in December also earned him OHL Player of the Month honors.

In 328 career OHL contests with Kingston and Sarnia, Sarault has earned 61-191=252 points with 145 PIM. In 2011-12, his 67 assists led the OHL, while his 87 points ranked seventh overall. Sarault has also appeared in 17 career OHL Playoff contests, collecting 2-8=10 points with eight PIM.
