Ducks Acquire Steckel from Toronto in Exchange for Lasch and a Seventh-Round Pick in 2014

The Ducks have acquired center David Steckel from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for right wing Ryan Lasch and a seventh-round draft pick in 2014.

“Adding David Steckel gives us another big body and depth up the middle,” said Ducks Executive Vice President/General Manager Bob Murray. “He comes highly recommended from Bruce (Boudreau). Faceoffs have been something of a concern for us the last few seasons. Steckel is a tremendous faceoff man and penalty killer, something that will really help our club.”

Steckel, 31 (3/15/82), has played in 398 NHL games with Washington, New Jersey, and Toronto, scoring 32-41=73 points with 125 penalty minutes (PIM). The 6-6, 215-pound center has also appeared in 24 career Stanley Cup Playoff games with Washington, earning 4-3=7 points with eight PIM. A native of Milwaukee, WI, Steckel appeared in 13 games for Toronto this season, collecting one assist (0-1=1).

Selected by Los Angeles in the first round (30th overall) of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, Steckel has a career faceoff percentage of 59.6 (2696-for-4523) and has been in the top seven in win percentage in each of his first five full seasons. He won 62.3% of his faceoffs in 2010-11 to lead the NHL and has also ranked second in 2009-10 (59.2), fifth in 2008-09 (57.9), sixth in 2011-12 (58.0) and tied for seventh in 2007-08 (56.3).

Lasch, 26 (1/22/87), has played with three teams this season, most recently with Vaxjo of the Swedish Elite League. He played in 10 games with Vaxjo, scoring 0-5=5 points. He also played 12 games with Fort Wayne of the ECHL (6-9=15 points) and 19 games for Norfolk of the American Hockey League this season (2-3=5 points). He was signed as a free agent by Anaheim on May 31, 2012. A native of Lake Forest, CA, Lasch has also played professionally in Finland (2011-12) and Sweden (2010-11) after four years at St. Cloud State of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association
