Morning Report (April 8): Ducks Ready for Schultz, Oilers
"You've got to stay out of the box against them, and when you come out, you have to make sure you're focused because they can make you pay." -- Andrew Cogliano, on the Oilers

The Ducks took part in an optional skate this morning at Honda Center and among them was Ryan Getzlaf. The captain has missed the previous two games due to a lower body injury suffered in the third period against Dallas on April 3.

“He’s a gametime decision today,” said head coach Bruce Boudreau. “He skated today and felt fine. I’ll decide whether we put him in or not.”

Tonight marks the first and only time the Edmonton Oilers play at Honda Center, and one player in particular will be closely watched whenever he’s on the ice – rookie defenseman Justin Schultz, who chose to play for the Oilers despite being drafted in the second round by the Ducks in 2008. More on that story and Schultz quotes.

When asked about the Schultz situation, Boudreau said, “I was sort of out of the loop, didn’t know much about it. I know we owned him at one point, and we didn’t at the end. That’s as far as I know. It’s just a uniform. He’s a good player and all, but we have to beat the Oilers, not Justin Schultz."

FACING THE OILERS
Andrew Cogliano knows the Oilers well, having been drafted by Edmonton in the first round in 2005 and playing his first four years with the club.

On the keys to containing the Oilers: “First of all, hopefully stay out of the box. That’s the most important thing. They have guys that can make you pay. I played with a bunch of them, and they’re very skilled. They move the puck well, and that’s one reason why they’ve been so good on the power play this year.

“You’ve got to try to stay out of the box against them, and when you come out, you have to make sure you’re focused because they can make you pay.”
