The Rinks-Corona Inline to Host Tryouts for FIRS Inline Hockey World Championships
The Ducks will host Team USA tryouts for the FIRS (International Roller Sports Federation) Inline Hockey World Championships at THE RINKS – Corona Inline presented by Honda from April 19-21. Run in conjunction with USA Roller Sports, the nation’s top inline hockey players will be traveling from across the country to vie for a spot on the four participating USA teams and represent their country this summer. Corona Inline will be open to the general public during the weekend tryouts, which range from ages 10 through adult. For more information, visit www.2013firsworldinline.com.

“We are excited to host tryouts here at THE RINKS – Corona Inline for the Men's, Women's, Jr. Men's, and Jr. Women's Team USA squads,” said USA Men’s Coach and General Manager of Huntington Beach and Corona Inline Ken Murchison. “It is a special thing being the first facility to host tryouts for all four teams in the same weekend. Combined with the FIRS Championships being held at Honda Center and THE RINKS - Huntington Beach Inline, it is a great time to be an inline hockey fan or player in Southern California. We look forward to the challenge and are extremely excited about what this summer holds.”

The FIRS Inline Hockey World Championships will be held July 7-21 at both Honda Center and THE RINKS – Huntington Beach Inline presented by Honda. The World Championships are set to take place on U.S. soil for the first time since 2006 (Detroit) and just the fourth time since the tournament’s inception in 1995 (also Chicago and New Orleans). The Ducks and THE RINKS expect over 60 teams from approximately 25 countries to travel to Southern California to compete in July’s championships.

The first week (July 7-14) of the two-week World Championships tournament will feature the FIRS Junior Men’s and Womens squads from throughout the world. The Adult Men’s and Women’s world inline teams will take to the stage for the final week of the tournament (July 14-21).

FIRS is the world governing body for roller sports and was established in 1924 in Switzerland. The Inline Hockey World Championships serve as the sport’s highest profile annual international tournament. The World Championships have grown from an inaugural 12 teams in 1995, to an expected 60+ teams in 2013. Both amateur and professional players are eligible to compete in the Inline Hockey World Championships. The United States will return to their home soil to defend their title, defeating Canada in the finals last summer in Colombia.

With THE RINKS Development Program presented by Honda launch in February 2009, the Ducks now operate seven local skating facilities: four ice rinks (THE RINKS – Anaheim ICE, THE RINKS - Lakewood ICE, THE RINKS – Westminster ICE and THE RINKS –Yorba Linda ICE), as well as three inline facilities (THE RINKS – Huntington Beach Inline, THE RINKS – Irvine Inline and THE RINKS – Corona Inline).
